Dr. Marc J Safran, MD

Dr. Safran did my Strabismus surgery. The surgery made everything about my vision worse. I was told I should have it done, but was never told about what could possibly happen as a negative result. Safran assured me I had nothing to worry about and that it was a simple surgery. I never saw double before my surgery, (other than "ghosting" from Astigmatism). Now my eyes now cross inwards, giving me double vision side to side and far away. I see starbursts of light at night, and glasses do not fix the problem. I now may have to have another surgery to fix what I never needed "fixing" in the first place. I have been in distress since this surgery and it was done awhile ago. My vision before this was perfect. To this day, I am not sure if I will ever see the same. Bottom line: DO YOUR RESEARCH. Get alternate opinions, or better yet do not start by coming here.

Mary Beth needs to be fired. She was awful with my daughter. She has ZERO patience with children what so ever. Please STAY away from the pediatric patients Mary Beth. My daughters ped as well as another ped eye doctor both said my child needs glasses due to her one eye wandering while trying to focus yet this office seems to think shes fine. I give this office NO stars. So dissapointed and now we are bringing our business else where where the doctors confirm she needs glasses and will make it all right.

I took my 4 year old son for an exam, due to concern with his vision that was noted during a routine vision check at the pediatrician's office. Due to his age, I could not take him to a Vision center for an exam (such as Davis or Empire). My only option was to make an appointment with an ophthalmology office. I scheduled an appointment with Dr Safran's office. I was told by the office my Excellus insurance was accepted. After the appointment - which was very pleasant, AND thankfully resulted in no severe abnormalities with his vision, no glasses required- we checked out and left. I then received a bill for $185 in the mail after. When I called to inquire about why I was billed and insurance declined, I was told that "routine visits are not covered". When I asked for further clarification, as this was an initial diagnostic exam for a new patient (not a routine service in my opinion) I was told that essentially, because after the exam, my child was healthy and and did require… glasses, the outcome of the exam was considered routine. I am very frustrated and disappointed about this practice. It seems to be very poor practice professionally, I will even say underhanded, as an office, to handle the billing in this manner and NOT communicate to the patient regarding the potential to receive an bill. It may seem extreme (and I am not an extreme person) BUT I will even go as far to say that I think this office is manipulating billing practices to best meet their own financial interests. I would suggest to any patient using this office for the first time, to ask clear questions about the potential for being billed privately based on the outcome of the visit. I would INSIST the office take a strong look at their standards of communication/customer service as it relates to new patient's and clearly, verbally explaining upon setting up the appointment AND at time of check in, the potential of your appointment not being covered if you are too healthy and thus is classified as "routine". Take your child elsewhere, please!

We insisted she goes cross-eyed a lot and we were heading abroad for a long time. We ended up realizing 6 months later that she was in urgent need of glasses (confirmed by two doctors in two other countries) and we wasted some precious months. Strong prescription too.

Staff is extremely rude and impatient. With so many practices to choose from, I would not waste your time here.

My daughter just had an appointment with Dr. Safran and she was in tears afterwards! We wil not be going back!

he doesnt want to listen to what you say is going on with the eye, give exam and get paid the bucks is all they want. crappy communication!!!! Ended up paying again somewhere else.

Dr. Safran is a very competent and pleasant eye doctor. His new office is both beautiful and I nivative.
