Dr. Mark Theodore Birns, MD

Although he did prescribe something that made me a bit better, he hasn’t been at all good about follow-up, which I needed desperately. I told him I was extremely skidding, embarrassed, afraid and he did not really make me feel better. As a matter of fact, I cannot forget his comment about “Youre lucky I didn’t stick my finger (not verbatim but close) in your butt like I wanted to determine if there was blood” AFTER I told him how modest I am. Bad communications with assistant as well. She was trying to order up tests I’d already had. Not dealing with the issue at all, but a side issue they found on scans which is not bad or life threatening it painful at all. Takes five minutes to get through to a RECORDING. So disappointing. Now, I need to be ill until a new gastro can take me in.

Dr. Birns is fabulous. So is his medical assistant, Judy.

This is literally the worst-run medical practice I have ever experienced. No follow up, no diagnosis, no return calls, doctors who seem irritated to even speak to a patient, horrific phone message system that results in no response. But even worse, Dr. Birns makes it very clear that he has no interest in your medical issues or the stresses associated with IBD. You are on your own, and Dr. Birns barely knows you exist. Run, do not walk, to any other gastroenterologist. Your bowels will thank you.

I've been going to Dr. Birns for over 30 years...he is the only Dr. who actually helped me with my colitis,,and now I am in remission. He is friendly and caring. and I think his staff is pretty nice too. I would highly recommend him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Birns for several years. He has shown a great deal of caring and helped me through many medical problems. I don't know what I would have done without his knowledge and help.

The facility where he performs procedures charges exorbitant amounts. If you do not have insurance watch out. The anesthesia was problematic for me...chills and fever followed and they charged 2.5-3 times higher than at the Suburban Hospital. As far as my stomach issue, he just ruled out many things but could not offer any cure.
