Dr. Mark Donald Anderson, MD

Dr. Anderson is the best Gastroenterologist in East Tennessee. He and his staff are friendly, compassionate and professional. Dr. Anderson explained both of my surgical procedures (colonoscopy and esophageal dilation) thoroughly and answered all of my questions. I highly recommend Dr. Anderson! ?????

One of the worst. Sure, it was easy to get an appointment and wait time in the lobby wasn’t long but I had to wait a very long time for Dr. Anderson and his nurse back in the exam room, just sitting in that room thinking they had forgotten me. Dr. Anderson spent maybe 3-5 minutes with me and seemed totally uncaring. When I tried to tell him about my pain/stress, he either cut me off or made a sarcastic comment. I had to say Wait! to get him to not rush out. I had more to tell him. He pawned me off to his intern, a new doctor, who listened more than he did but that didn’t matter because I left there with NO HELP. I told him I had 2 HIDA scans in the past and a recent CT scan that showed only 15% functioning gallbladder (although he was ready to dismiss me thinking I said 50%. I had to repeat myself) and explained how I needed a surgeon in TN for gallbladder removal because my insurance wouldn’t allow my doctor in Ky to do the surgery. I also said I wa extremely worried about pancreatic… cancer or a blocked duct since I had so much left side pain and nausea (level 9-10 daily) to the point I had to go to the ER. His response: Get a third HIDA scan, for which I would have to wait a month according to his nurse. And get a second CT scan even though I just had one, and bloodwork for my liver. Nothing to check my pancreas, nothing recommended to do for my nausea and pain (I’m unable to take medication). And then he was out of there. I went home and dealt with more level 9 pain. The nurse told me I’d still have to “wait and wait” if I went to the ER. So it looks like I’ll just suffer or hopefully die and get out of this pain. I thought Dr. Anderson cared, but as he’s gotten o,dear, he’s become like every other doctor who should’ve retired 10 years ago. He rushes through and does NOT care about the individual. He didn’t care that I left there crying because I didn’t know what to do. He was done. So, NO! I do not recommend Mark Anderson if you have a serious, urgent, or complicated issue. He might be different if you just go in and just ask for a scope. He’ll be glad to just get you in and out for a routine in a few minutes.

I have used Dr. Anderson for ten plus years. He is very proficient at performing sigmoidoscopies and colonoscopies; but in my case, has never offered me any treatment other than scoping. He is a man of few words, who seems a little uncomfortable talking to patients and spends little time with the patient. He has not resolved my several year problem which is worsening. He is good for scoping but not good for diagnosing any disorders that a scope doesn't find.

I saw Dr Anderson for a yr and a few weeks ago, I had to see him for stomach pain and severe bloating. My primary Dr wanted him to do an upper scope on me to see why I was having problems. He came into the room, sat down, looked at a paper and said to me, " You have gained 15 lbs in 10 months, I can't help you" He then walked out of the room. He did nothing, not even felt on my stomach.. I was so upset. That wasn't called for.

Got the feeling that our appointment was interfering with his day. He came across as to busy for us.
