Dr. Mark Harold Stouffer, MD

My husband, Philip Andrew (Andy) Newberry, had a double laminectomy on August 20, 2025 with Mark Stouffer, MD. By the evening of September 12, the incision was leaking pus. The next morning, a Saturday, I called Dr Stouffer’s office and spoke to the MA. I expressed my urgent concern. Dr Stouffer called me back and tried to reassure me that it was just fluid, not pus. I repeated twice that it was pus and I wanted him to see Andy that day. He said he would see him on Monday. On Monday, he took a quick look at the incision and said he would add Andy to the surgery schedule on Tuesday. After surgery, Andy developed sepsis and was very ill. He spent eight days in the hospital. He had a PICC line put in on September 23 and came home after spending two nights in Advanced Health which was a negative experience. He had six weeks of infusions three times a day followed by six weeks of oral antibiotics. He was extremely weak and lost all muscle mass. We think Dr Stouffer is a competent surgeon… but not a good physician. We regret not waiting to get in to Dr West, who has done a double cervical fusion for me. Alice M Newberry, PhD

Had surgery by dr Stouffer in 2015 due to severe back pain, and in less then 3 yrs the PAIN WAS BACK...I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO DR. STOUFFER!

I could not stand straight Ihad ruptured dice pinching the sciatic nerve not being able to walk without a cane.I had my surgery and did as I was told to recover. I have not had a issue since the surgery in 2016

One would think that the surgery performed to alleviate the back pain, would last LONGER THEN 2 YRS!!! After the 3 yr ,the pain started to come back but not too intense. Here we are 2019 and I AM IN SEVERE BACK PAIN!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND GOING BACK TO DR. STOUFFER..... Terribly disappointed with the results of the back surgery. THE SURGERY RESULTS LASTED ONLY 2 YRS TO 2 1/2; THE PAIN HAS RETURNED TO THE POINT THAT I'M IN FULL BLOWN AGONY.
