Dr. Melissa Marie Garrett, MD

I found Dr Garrett to be available, communicative and respectful. I received my pathology report much sooner than expected and followup call from her office less than 48 hrs from procedure date.

Took 3 months for her to get back to me with test results she had me take in Durham . Test results that were positive

I would not recommend to anyone. She lacks any compassion and was the worst GI physician I have ever had contact with. The front desk staff were not helpful answering questions, and did not even acknowledge me for several minutes when I first arrived, and then could not even print out a receipt. The only good thing I have to say about the office is the wait time is always within 5 minutes, but I will not be back.

I called to make an appointment. I waited on the phone for over 9 mins. Then was disconnected. I called back to only have the same thing happen again. It was very frustrating and I don't know if I will call back. I rated one star only because I could not submit without a rating.

Would not recommend, no follow up, would respond to my many calls about procedure.

This was the most horrifying experience I have ever had with a doctor. She seemed very angry about something from the beginning of the appointment, did not care to ask about any of my symptoms and tried to push me out the door with a hand full of pills as fast as possible. Over the course of the next two monthes under her care I lost over 45 lbs and became severely malnourished while she refused to return my calls. She showed up late to a procedure, confused, and quickly administered anesthesia before I could even ask her a question. Eventually told me I was fine and referred me to the pain management clinic. The doc at pain management took one look at me and said I was severely ill and told me to seek immediate medical attention with another doctor. UNC was horrified with my story and immediately took care of the situation. If you care for your health or that of your loved ones, for the love of god look elsewhere.

It's possible that she was having a bad day and therefore was not interested in making eye contact or being personable at all - no bedside manner. I can do without, but you would think that if you go to a specialist, they would ask you about the details of your symptoms. Anyone in health care should know OLDCARTS, maybe a pain rating would be helpful? Does anything make it worse, anything make it better? At least ask me about my diet! You are a GI doc.... I left feeling like I had a text message conversation with someone and pain is synonymous with discomfort.

Seeing this Doctor could seriously save your life, did mine. Thankful Survivor

The insanely small amount Dr Garrett seemed to care about my condition and follow-up was evident from the first time I saw her in early 2007. The endoscopies and colonoscopies she performed for me were all fine, but it was obvious that she was more concerned about moving on to the next procedure than about giving me all the information, perusing my results, and following up with me. I finally stopped seeing her recently after she made me wait for my appointment and then sent her nurse to tell me that if I couldn't pay my copay right away I would have to leave and reschedule. I decided to drop her instead. Don't go to Dr Garrett if you're looking for a GI doctor to actually follow you and care about you.

She is extremely professional & caring> I would highly recommend her for most digestive issues.
