Dr. Michael Engelbert, MD

Dr. Engelbert struck me as thorough and comprehensive, and most people seem to share this impression. I'm therefore surprised that just one day after I had a thorough eye exam with him, I discovered through a separate exam I had with an ophthalmologist (because my exam with Dr. Engelbert didn't include an eye tests for a corrective prescription for my glasses) that I have a cataract, and THIS is why my previous prescription failed to fully correct for my left eye. I find it incredibly unnerving that I had a "comprehensive" eye exam just one day prior with Dr. Engelbert and he didn't notice that I have a cataract. A cataract is not some obscure, difficult-to-detect ailment.

After being referred to him by my retina specialist, surgery was done on. Friday night T 10 pm! He is so kind, knowledgeable and saved my vision????

I cannot recommend Dr. Engelbert -- and his team at the White Plains office from Bernie at the front desk to the techs -- highly enough. I came under his care following complications from a vitrectomy performed by another retinal surgeon. Dr. Engelbert performed two surgeries to treat and/or prevent subsequent retinal detachments over the course of the next few months. Anybody doing basic research will see that he is at the top of his field, but more importantly, when one is facing the loss of vision or the eye itself, the doctor-patient relationship is everything. Dr. Engelbert spent all the time it took to answer all my questions, listen to my concerns and address my fears. He returned emails at all hours post surgery. His smile and his encouragement were as important to me as his unstinting honesty. I wish there were a Dr. Engelbert in every field of medicine, the confidence in -- and the reputation of -- the medical profession would benefit immensely.

Referred to Dr. Engelbert by my retinal specialist in Austin, TX from which I'd just moved. Easy transition. Dr. Engelbert: Personable, gave detailed explanation, discussed options. I'm in excellent hands.

Dr. Michael Engelbert has the rare combination of being brilliant, having the nicest/sweetest disposition all the while being the very best set of hands you can be in if you are in need of highly specialized eye care. He saved my husbands vision 2 years ago during an unforeseen emergency and we have all become his patients now. He is one of the most caring and genuine physicians We've ever met and Is well known in the U.S. People from all over the world come to see him. Additionally he has a wonderful staff and we are especially fond of 'Bernie' who is the epitome of efficiency and caring. How lucky are we to have this practice here in Westchester !

I was sent to Dr Engelbert by my ophthalmologist with a detached retina at about 5pm on a Tuesday. The office was about to close. Dr Engelbert and his staff were terrific. He examined me and suggested surgery that night if an OR was available. They called the hospital immediately and booked the OR for 9pm that night. They also arranged for the equipment I would need (must be face-down for 10 days) to be delivered that evening after the surgery. Dr Engelbert explained the surgery, etc. He took time to answer my questions. He gave me his private email and said I should email him immediately if I had questions. I was in the OR at 9pm and home by 11pm. I saw him the next morning and each week thereafter. He was very thorough. The surgery was a success and Dr Engelbert is certainly responsible for that.

I would deffinitely reccomend him,and if it wasn't for Dr. Michael Engelbert I wouldn't have my eye sight.

About 3 months ago I ended up at Dr. Engelbert's office with an almost detached retina.After a thorough exam he took the time to explain in an easy to comprehend and compassionate way that I needed immediate emergency surgery to save my eyesight and avoid a lifetime of pain.Even though it was late on a Friday afternoon, when most surgeons are long gone, Dr. Engelbert cancelled all his plans (his parents were arriving from Europe) to perform surgery.The operation was a success and I was very impressed that he gave me his personal contact number for any questions. I called him twice and he reassured me both times.Dr. Engelbert has since performed laser surgery on my other eye, which he explained if left untreated could result in another detachment.I am blessed to be in this talented and caring doctors hands.He truly is my "angel" for saving my eyesight.
