Competent doctor

I don't think Dr. Shen would recognize me if he saw me. I'm just a statistic to him. He doesn't know about my progress outside of the office. He might not care. That being said, he has amazing surgical skills. The assistant at his front desk may be overwhelmed and has difficulty keeping up with patients administrative duties. Their office is also not able to provide accurate referrals.

I constantly felt rushed and like I as a patient didn’t matter. The only great part of the whole experience was the front desk lady that checked me in. She was so nice and delightful. The nurse who took my back was cold and I felt like I was a box to be checked off. Even the X-ray technician was rushing and condescending. Dr. Shen was right outside my door and I could hear them all talking about me and my case. It made me feel as though my past medicinal problems and current pain was not important. When I finally got to talk with Dr. Shen it lasted a while five minutes. He never actually examined me and dismissed my past surgical history and drummed it down to inflammation. Wrote me scripts and sent me on my way. . . I will not be returning.

He is a stud - fixed my neck and did a fabulous job. I was in a ton of pain before and these new discs are working out great. Any surgery is serious but Im really glad I got it done and my life has improved.

Dr. Shen was fantastic. Always taking the time to make sure that we understood everything. He is kind and attentive to us. He made sure to ask if we had questions and was quick to answer them. I would recommend him to anyone I know that would need a knowledgeable back surgeon.

Wonderful experience with Orthopedics Centers of Colorado (OCC). Dr. Michael Shen is a wonderful and incredible surgeon, and the staff is always helpful and kind. Not only has Dr. Shen taken great care of my health, but also he is a joy to speak with at each and every appointment. It’s rare to find a doctor that combines such personal touches and care for a patient all while providing outstanding and quality medical care. I highly recommend becoming Dr. Shen’s patient!

Dr. Shen is by far one of the best experiences I have had with medical care. He quickly diagnosed my issue, explained the surgery in detail I understood and truly made me feel he cared and was totally on my side. His ‘bedside manner’ was that of a knowledgeable, kind doctor. Went to Dr. Shen for a second opinion on a fracture of my lumbar vertebra due to a pedestrian accident 6 weeks ago. After meeting the MA (who was incredibly incompetent including an inability to load my X-rays onto the system), met Dr. Shen who was patronizing from the get go. He hardly listened to my issues, sent me packing for X-rays, and then was in a hurry to leave after stating that I have to do PT. I was wanting to ask many questions like, has my fracture healed and what activities can I do and I not do, but he just kept repeating the same sentence over and over again about starting PT, though I had already stated that I am currently doing PT. Then comes the clincher - he asks me what exercise I currently do, and I state just walking. And with a sneering look, he states "Do you walk to build your biceps"? I truly felt treated like a 5-year old kid, and was tempted to walk out of the room right then. No patient should have to go through the condescending behavior of this doctor… in this day and age. TERRIBLE! I wanted to originally see Dr. D'Ambrosia , but he was booked out, though Dr. Shen had multiple appointments - I guess I know why now!

Dr. Shen is amazing as a human and surgeon. He saved me and trust him with my life. You should too.
