Dr. Mohsen Ghafouri, MD

Dr. Ghafouri has been my saving grace. After seeing many doctors over the years with chronic pain I finally found a Dr who cares and goes the extra mile to research and bring me relief and finally diagnose me. Dr. G has been caring for me now for almost 15+ years and I wouldn’t stay with this practice if I didn’t believe I was getting the care I deserve. Big bonus: He opened up an infusion suite which is state of the art and very convenient for us. You don’t feel like a number but rather very much cared about. The other Dr.’s in the practice are all very good as well. And I can’t say enough about the infusion nurses and how wonderful they take care of us. The back office staff has been incredible as well. If you are looking for w good Rheumatologist, I highly recommend Dr. G and staff.

I saw Dr. Ghafouri several times. Each time I saw him he was rude and arrogant with no compassion. He dismissed my condition with no regard for the pain my body was going through. I now have an awesome rheumatologist who is giving me the medication I should have been on years ago. I suffered for years because of his lack of care.

Immediately diagnosed and dealt with my progressive, dibilitating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and subsequently has prevented me from becoming a cripple. If you want to be 'babied' and someone to hold your hand while you whine, then go see a baby sitter, not one of the best rheumatologists in Northern Virginia. Kg

I saw the doctor 3 times and the third time he had a new chart for me and didn't even recognize me. He diagnosed me with Fibromaliga , but the symptoms didn't add up ! he kept asking me for multi-tests but never let me know when the results came out and my primary doctor requested my labs through his office three times and they didn't send them.

I had previously seen a nurse practioner in Dr. Ghafouri’s practice who was great - she listened, took me seriously, and made time for me. She ordered a bunch of bloodwork and we met a second time to review it. The third time I met with Dr. Ghafouri and the first thing he said was that he wanted to order bloodwork - the same tests I had just had done. He hadn’t even read my chart! Then he pressed on areas where I have documented arthritis, herniated discs, and bursitis and asked if those areas hurt. I said yes. He said that I had fibromyalgia. First off, fibromyalgia is pain with no known cause. I have MRIs showing clear issues for why I have pain. Secondly, how could he diagnose this after 5 minutes of talking over me. My hands are becoming disfigured from the arthritis and you can see the swelling in the joints. I tried to show him because my grandmother had completely disfigured hands from arthritis and my mother’s hands are well on their way to being disfigured and now I can see it… happening in my hands. That’s why I was there and when I showed him my hands and tried to tell him what was happening he snapped at me and asked, “What kind of arthritis do you have there are so many kinds. You don’t have arthritis you have fibromyalgia and you just need to exercise more and avoid gluten.” Well, if he had read my chart, he would have seen the document that showed that I am an avid hiker, backpacker, walker, and I do resistence training. I’ve also been gluten free for years and years. I would not recommend this doctor unless you want sarcasm, condescension, and someone who obviously has more important things to do.

I saw Dr. Ghafouri today for the first time. I had seen his nurse practitioner several times before, and she had run a slew of bloodwork to try and figure out why my joints hurt so much, and I had several abnormalities on the bloodwork, most of which she just blew off as nothing. She diagnosed me as having fibromyalgia and I was put on both Lyrica and Savella. My symptoms gradually got worse. She assured me that it was nothing more than fibromyalgia, but I did my own research and was still quite concerned because my joint pain was increasing and I was sleeping all the time among other things. Because of this, she told me that my next appointment would be with Dr. Ghafouri (today). Today's appointment with him was a complete waste of time. He walked in, asked me what meds I was on, poked on me a few times, and said that I needed to be on a higher dose of Lyrica. He had never seen me before, and he didn't ask about my history at all. I also recently had more bloodwork through his office,… and my vitamin D level was low, and I had a very high Epstein Barr virus titer. He addressed neither of these. In fact, I don't think he even had my history or labs at all. I felt like he wanted to get rid of me as fast as he could. I have been on prescription vitamin D 4 times since 2011 because I can't keep my levels up. I went into this appointment prepared to go on vitamin D again. Instead what I got was a doctor who asked me what medicine I was on, increased it, and did not address one abnormal result on my bloodwork. BTW - I was a laboratory technologist for 20 years, so I know these abnormal results need to be addressed. Incredibly disappointed in the doctor. I won't be going back. Don't waste your time by going to this office! Note: I wasn't going to return to see Dr. Ghafouri because I was frustrated with this office before today, and I asked them to cancel today's appointment a week ago. Well, two days ago, someone called me from their office to remind me of today's appointment. I decided to keep it only because they failed to cancel it like I asked them to do

I highly recommend Dr. Ghafouri. He has been very attentive and is very knowledgeable.

Dr Ghafouri may never be your best friend, but he is an excellent doctor and wants to make his patients feel better. At times, he may seem like he isnt paying attention to you directly, but he is thinking of what will work. I've battled pain due to my Lupus for years and years, and within a few months of seeing him as my new doctor I'm already feeling better. He has started 2 new treatments that are actually working! Thank God i found Dr Ghafouri!

Dr Ghafouri has been terrific. He has monitored my autoimmune issues closely and acted pre-emptively to prevent complications. He explains everything and answers my questions. It's easy to get an appointment and the staff is courteous and pleasant. I recommend him to all my friends.
