Dr. Munish Chandra Gupta, MD

I'm 67 and had severe scoliosis and stenosis. In Dec. of 2017, Dr Gupta did surgery to fix my back. I was fused from T2 to the pelvis. I have had no problems and just had my one year check up. I can stand tall, and walk anywhere I want to go. I have a waist again and feel so much better about my appearance. I seldom have pain, and tylenol takes care of it. Dr. Gupta is so kind and caring, and I believe he's the best surgeon I could ever had had. My family doctor, and the home health nurse, were so impressed with the incision on my back and how it healed. Dr. Gupta is a blessing!

Dr. Gupta is by far the best orthopedic doctor and surgeon I could have ever asked for. He helped me through the tough obstacles I faced through my journey, and preformed my surgery too. I was nothing less than satisfied and thriller with the results of his help, and the results of the surgery. He is incredibly kind too, and I would recommend his as a child, or adult specialist.

When a spine injury is repaired successfully, even if only in stages at a time, the amount of pain that is taken away immediately sets the surgeon on a pedastool. In my case, Dr Gupta resolved an incredibly painful spine injury and was unbelievably understanding, compassionate and accurate in everything he did. If you are considering to be his patient, you can trust him implicitly and I would never say that about any other nurse, primary or assistant I had to deal with. Gupta is the highest standard of spine surgery.

DR. Gupta performed a spinal fusion on me in 2015. I have mixed opinions. I was in severe pain consistent long term pain prior to working with DR. G. I was actually using a cain prior to surgery and was unable to stand up for more than 10 minutes at a time and could collapse at any time. His fusion on me changed my life for the better. My negative comments are hard to say. I had other issues that were known at the time and were not addressed. This was a philosophical decision to treat the worst first, thinking fuse as little as possible and hope for the most relief. I respect the conservative approach. However, my approach was take care of it all while we are opening me up. I had about a year to year and have of solid relief until the other area known compromised area was destroyed to the level where I needed to have that area fused. The initial issue was was L5 / S1 with L4/L5 the additional area. I chose not to return to Dr. Gupta mostly due the length of time it gets to… obtain appointments and the slowness of the UC Davis process from stage to stage. Plus my primary care provider is Sutter. Perhaps I have the rare perspective of dealing with two respectable hospitals and two highly regarded surgeons. As mentioned, DR. G changed for my life for the better and I will always be greatfull for that, but if I were to need another fusion, (god help me) I would be going back to Sutter. While I appreciated the conservative approach, I would have preferred to have gone through that experience only one and I would have preferred the more aggressive approach in this case.

Dr. Munish is next to God to me in this world. It is his passion to treat the patient in best possible way so that the patient lives a comfortable life. He is very caring and understands the feelings of the patient. He is very humble and generous. May God bless him and his family with all the happiness and comfort in the world.

I inteviewed many, many surgeons until I walked into Dr. Gupta's office and sat down. He immediatly walked to me, knelt down to me and put the warmest hands around mine with his wonderful, truly concerned smile on his face. I immediately felt in good hands, almost as tho I were part of his own family. That was in 2005. Since then, I have had two lower-lumbar laminectomies w/fusion and two cervicle laminectomies w/fusion, once surgery needed in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011. My last surgery was done 3 days after he discovered my compressed cervical disks were about to cut my spinal cord and I was looking at becomine a quadapeligic. When I woke from surgery, as with each, I opened my eyes to see his kind eyes asking me how I felt. FINE! I said. He saved my life once again. During my 3rd surgery I had complications and he made sure I was perfect before releasing me. I didn't like it at first but now I'm greatfull for his knowledge, concern and bedside manner during my emotional colapse. I… would recommend him to be the surgeon even on the president if he were to need one. I only wish that every doctor, surgeon, nurse, etc would give the type of one-on-one attention with the same heartfealt, genuine concern and make all patients feel like they are the most important person in his mind at the time like he does. My first 30 seconds with him - with his warm hands and smile convinced me he was the best in the world, not just for me, but for anyone in need of medical needs.

In 2001, I went to Dr. Gupta for back problems after several other doctors said there was nothing that could be done. Dr. Gupta's staff got me in to see him w/in 2 weeks. During my appointment, Dr. Gupta sat patiently for over an hour talking to me about not only my medical issues, but also my quality of life. He was understanding, kind and gave me hope. Something I hadn't had in a long time. Because of the severity of my condition, Dr. Gupta had me in surgery 3 weeks later. Dr. Gupta and his staff kept my wife fully informed of my condition during & after the surgery and his bedside manner was above reproach. He explained in full detail every step of the procedure and followed up with me even after I moved out of state. Dr. Gupta is a genuine kind and caring doctor who truly cares about restoring and/or improving his patients lives. Thanks to Dr. Gupta he gave me back my life. Today I am able to do almost all the things I did 30 yrs ago. I highly recommend Dr. Gupta to anyone… considering an orthopedic surgery. Dr. Gupta gets 5+ stars from me.
