Dr. Nirmala Shanmugam, MD

She used to be a compassionate, patient doctor until in 2023 she stopped offering in-person appointments without explanation. When I was in significant pain I knew was from chronic GERD & I needed an appointment on short notice, the rude office staff changed the in-person appointment I had made on the practice's own appointment scheduling website to a virtual visit without telling me until 3 hours before the time of the appointment. When I tried to reach the staff member who left me the voicemail, repeated calls just kept going to voicemail. When I expressed my need for an in-person visit, they cancelled the virtual visit without telling me and have stopped answering my calls. This is on top of the doctor back in 2023 for another urgently needed appointment continuing to text me non-functioning Zoom meeting links for 30 minutes past the start time of my appointment before she just ghosted me after I kept texting her that her Zoom links didn't work. Then a month later at my primary care… doctor's office for a routine exam she gleefully told me, in reference to Dr. Shanmugam, that she (not me, the patient) had received a letter from Shanmugam "dismissing me as a patient" - and now to top it all off, Gastro Health evidently keeps a list of people they won't treat - I can't conclude otherwise than that I've been blacklisted at Gastro Health, as my attempts to switch to another of their doctors in 2023 were refused by rude staff in both the Lake Worth and Boynton offices, and now online appointment requests on their website by me are automatically cancelled by their patient portal software. This is of concern because my Medicare Advantage PPO insurance's network of GI doctors only includes them & another GI group practice. My advice: if you don't want to be treated like a dog, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM GASTRO HEALTH - RUDE UNCARING DOCTORS, EVEN MORE RUDE OFFICE STAFF. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED....

Terrible customer service. Always voicemail in trying to reach the office I had 2 telephone appointments with the dr on different days and was never called by the doctor. Not even the courtesy call to say she is delayed or unable to call that day. Leaving the practice

I have been a patient for 9 years and never been disappointed with the care and decisions of Dr Shanmungam. Staff is courteous and efficient. Everyone should understand that at superior doctors office which is very busy there are sometimes you might have to wait so someone else gets the care required.

Dr. Shanmugam has been treating me for the past five years. I find her to be extremely knowledgable and very caring. She never makes you feel like she's in a hurry. She takes her time with you and is very thorough. I must say the her staff is very courteous professional! Her assistant, Sensy Wright is the best! She ALWAYS returns my phone calls within hours and is always so friendly. I highly recommend Dr. Nirmala Shanmugam...Five Stars all the way around!!!!

Very good doctor. She is always concerned about you. She sits and talks to you about what is going on. She explains everything to you so you understand what is going on .

I was referred to Dr Shanmugam from Another Gastro Dr that did not do the Procedure he wanted me to have It was swallowing a capsule and preparing the night before drinking liquid and next day swallowing capsule fasting and wearing machine all day First the inefficient office made a mistake in my appointment. Then the office on lake worth the employees Very rude. One the nurses that also worked at Boynton office made fun of me cause I didn’t want to get close to her cause she had a very bad cold They told me 2-3 weeks Well over 3 weeks. I called a few times They said no results. Today I call My drs office that referred me and they Said they had report a few weeks ago This office still haven’t returned my calls This is the worst experience I’ve had at a Drs office. Very inefficient office As far as Dr Shanmugam. I only saw her once. So I have no comment on her I still don’t know my results I would not tell anyone to go to this inefficient office. Dr Shanmugam needs… to improve her staff and policies

Dr Nirmala Shanmugam is very professorial. She treats the problem and explains where you understand each move. She answers all questions and she never rushes you out of the office. I feel in good hands with her.
