Dr. Paul Wellington Detwiler JR., MD

Dr. Detwiler is friendly, compassionate and clearly explains the procedures necessary to achieve results. I would recommend this doctor for spine and joint issues.

Dr. Detwiler was highly recommended by a very reliable source. I went with great confidence in him due to the recommendation. During one of my visits prior to surgery, Dr. Detwiler claimed that I’d never need surgery again for this problem. After the surgery was over and I was in recovery, the nurse told me that the doctor had an emergency meeting and will call me later that day to discuss the surgery. I was in extreme pain while in recovery. Same pain as I had before surgery but much much much worse. I awaited the call back from Dr. Detwiler, but he never called. I called his office and asked to speak to the Dr. and they just asked what was wrong, I told them and emphasized that I wanted to talk with the Dr. I called several times over the next few weeks with no avail. Then I was told that the Dr. would do nothing else for me and they referred me to a pain management Dr. He asked that I get an MRI done and it had to be done at the hospital because the place I had it done before… didn’t produce good images. They were good enough for him to do surgery. I finally saw Dr. Detwiler at my 6 week check up. He claimed that his people NEVER told him that I wanted to talk to him; that’s is problematic. He looked at the MRI and told me that he needed to get a CT Myelogram which would be much clearer. I had that done and re-visited Dr. Detwiler. He told me that if my pain persisted I will need another surgery and that leg pain was easy to fix. If it was easy to fix, why didn’t he do it right the first time. I had a similar surgery done 5 years earlier in Dallas by Dr. Gill. I contacted Dr. Gills office and set up an appointment to see him. Surgery was immediately scheduled. I am now pain free 8 days after Dr. Gills surgery. If Dr. Detwiler is the best that Tyler has, then I caution anyone in having surgery done by ANY doctor in Tyler.

My pain from herniated disc and spinal stenosis is gone. I went home same day as surgery. I was in a lot of pain and I was shocked to learn he sent me home with Tylenol #3. Luckily I had Hydrocodone from knee replacement last year. I guess Doctors are worried about drug dependency. He could use a little more personality, my husband disagrees with me. He says as long as he gets the job done well, it doesn't matter.

We were so impressed with Dr. Detwiler when our son was in an accident this past August. Dr. Detwiler saved his life and treated us with kindness and compassion. He answered all our questions and explained our sons condition in a way we could understand which helped us feel supported.

I will call on Dr. Detwiler again should I need his services.

We have Dr. Detwiler to thank for our daughter being alive today. She probably would have died if he had not performed surgery on her and guided her care and recovery.

I saw great reviews so scheduled appt for a second opinion with Dr. Detwiler; he must have had a very bad day: He was very terse when speaking, put me down several times, then lied about my MRI: I work medical field and already knew what I had, just needed 2nd opinion, wanted him to do surgery. Will NEVER go to a hateful person who lies.

Dr Detwiler did an amazing job repairing two ruptured discs in my lower back. Three weeks post op and I feel better than I have in five years. He is very knowledgeable and not one of these cut first and ask questions later surgeons. He will explore all options until surgery makes sense for his patient. His staff is knowledgeable, courteous and efficient!
