Richard V. Abdo, M.D. Born in Syracuse, New York, Dr. Richard V. Abdo earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Brown University in 1978, graduating with Honors in Geology-Biology. In 1982, he received his Medical Degree, Laude from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed his General Surgery Internship at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California in 1983, and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Boston University in 1987. Dr. Abdo began his practice at The Lahey Clinic in Boston where he was on staff from 1987 to 1994. He was Clinical Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and Director of The Lahey Clinic Foot and Ankle Fellowship. In Florida, he has served on the Voluntary Faculty of the Dept. of Family Medicine from 2000 to present as Affiliate Assistant Professor, including the Sports Medicine Fellowship training program. Dr. Abdo joined Orthopaedic Specialties of Tampa bay,P.A. in 1994. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Dr. Abdo has published and presented papers at local, regional, and national meetings. He serves on the editorial staff of The American Journal of Sports Medicine, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and Foot and Ankle International. Dr. Abdo has served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Morton Plant Hospital, as well as on several hospital committees. Locally he has volunteered as a team physician for high school and club sports teams. Dr. Abdo is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has achieved the ABOS Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Subspecialty Certificate. He treats all types of orthopaedic related conditions.
