Dr. Robert Ernest Randolph, MD

Dr. Randolph was completely dismissive of my concerns about side effects of using a drug long term and said I had no choice but to stay on this drug and manage, through my PCP, the other life long and life altering conditions that are beginning to develop with its use. The drug is only indicated for temporary use along with the main chemo drug as an initial boost for treating my very rare condition per every study and expert on the condition I have accessed, but he insisted I would be on it for life and it would be against medical advice to come off it. When asked if he knew of studies showing the use of this drug long term with my condition, he said he did, but made no effort to share the information with me. Maybe he was having a bad day, but it seems that self-advocacy is not an option with Dr. Randolph and he does not listen with compassion.

A dear friend on mine, a patient of Dr. Randolph, died of lung cancer a few weeks ago. By the time he was diagnosed a few months ago, he had already lost a huge amount of weight, was not eating and could barely walk. Dr. Randolph was insistent on treating him with chemotherapy despite his compromised health. His health declined quickly, further emaciated, losing more weight, and got to lose his hair as well before dying. As part of his Advanced Directive, I have the Medical Power of Attorney. After my friend passed, I wanted to meet with Dr. Randolph to understand the rationale for the treatment. Non litigious, non threatening conversation. They refused to see me. My conclusion: avoid this guy. There is plenty of literature speaking to palliative care over chemo. But the fact he would not take time to explain the care is enough for me.
