he’s an unreal doctor, he really is. amazing at what he does and knows his stuff. but the office staff is absolute garbage. they don’t answer, they don’t tell you when appointments change, and they don’t even know what’s going on. example: i asked about a scan the dr. wanted and the receptionist told me i didn’t need it. well, she was completely wrong and i did need the test done. another time my appointment changed locations and they failed to call and inform us. i don’t think there is anyone that is more unprofessional and just flat out worthless at their job than his office staff

If you have neurogenic TOS , he is a fraud suggesting he can help you. His staff was appalling, rude, uncaring, the EXPENSIVE trip there to the "mecca" of TOS was a JOKE, he spent 5 min with me, put his forefinger on my clavicle, and that was it. I could go on and on and on about how AWFUL the whole experience was with EVERYONE involved with him.

Definitely liked him before I had my surgery but after meeting a lot of the staff and him afterwards, I will definitely not be coming back or seeing him again. The first time I had surgery, Dr. Thompson experimented on my shoulder by filling up balloons and then popping them while my fingers were in some sort of container. The second time I had surgery, I woke up half way through and the lady said, "You are way too small to play football." Then, the anesthesiologist said, "Can you hear her?" I replied with, "Yes." He responded with, "Oh, ok, go to sleep." I also shadowed a surgeon there and witnessed some disgusting comments while 'attractive' women were their patients. I HIGHLY recommend not having your parents, kids, and especially daughters work or have surgery at WashU. On the followup appointment, when I told the doctor I was having GI issues, he laughed at me and said, "try eating more fiber." I hope he enjoys his life.

terrible staff

I went to him to have a reoperation for Venous TOS. At first he was really great and I felt confident he was going to fix my problem. However, after the surgery he was absolutely no help. The bypass he put in failed and he refused to help me afterwards. It's like what everyone else is saying on here, if you have any sort of complication he and his staff toss you aside.

Obviously I am not a satisfied patient....long story with a lousy outcome. This guy might be a good doctor...as in maybe some of his surgeries turn out ok...I don’t know, mine wasn’t a success. As far as an office manager...he is a cowardly weasel and his office staff is THE WORST and he doesn’t really give a sh!t. Do yourself a favor and find another doctor for your situation. He has way too many patients and after your surgery you won’t see him and you will end up regretting that you have to deal with his office staff. You will probably witness turnover in his office staff and you WONT get a call back.

Everyone has good experiences and bad experiences and a surgeon at times can only do so much, and I don't think his bed side manner from one person should be the determining factor for people to make a decision of this importance. Dr Thompson is a wonderful Doctor with no air about him dispite the incredible number of patience he has helped, especially those high profile athletes that have returned to the sports they love. I came to him after many botched surgeries, I was a mess. He operated on me and saved my life, I was days away from a stroke. He took time to explain it to me and even visited me in between speaking engagements at 10:30pm. He has stood by me through this whole horrible experience and I recently had to have scar tissue removed and he took maticulous care in removing the scar tissue from my brachial plexus. I am aware I am disabled for life and that is not anyones fault, but Dr Thompson has at least been a person who has tried to let me maybe find a moment of… normal, whatever that ends up being and I am forever grateful.

Just from the first visit, I can tell this doc is passionate about his practice and helping patients with TOS. No operation yet but he is thoughtful, smart and knowledgeable about this difficult syndrome.
