Dr. Scott Michael Smetana, MD

Dr. Smetana is awesome! He helped me step by step through my entire Cataracts experience! Had every answer for any worries I might have had! After surgery, everything is great! I can see perfect out of my eye again and I am Totallay Happy with the outcome! I will not go to anyone else! Thank You! 5 STAR!!!

Dr. Smetana was recommended to me by several friends. I did not have a great experience at Eye Associate three years ago but needed a thorough exam and decided to give Eye Associates another try. Much like my first experience, it was clear this is a money making business first and a customer/patient-driven medical facility second. All my exams with the techs prior to seeing the doctor were done very quickly and efficiently with no room for explanations or asking if I had concerns or questions. I have never had a refraction test that went that fast and furious. When Dr. Smetana arrived he greeted me quickly and immediately dove into a very rapid exam with short comments about "macular", "cataracts", and several numbers I did not understand. He mentioned the refraction test showed just a slight change (with no details). He left as quickly as he arrived and I was left wondering exactly how serious the "small" items mentioned were, how much longer I could expect to not need… cataract surgery, if I should do anything to avoid further macular deterioration, and, most importantly, WHEN I should come back.....a year, two years, three years??? I am sure Dr. Smetana and his staff are perfectly medically competent but it would be nice to feel as though there is true care and concern for the individual instead of just one more Medicare payment to Eye Associates. At a minimum, it would have been nice to have experienced a slightly slower pace and the following would have been appreciated and appropriate: "Do you have any questions?" "Do you understand the terms I just mentioned?" "There is nothing to worry about right now but I do suggest you come back to see us in a year."

I had my yearly check up on June 4th. The staff were helpful and patient. After a short wait the doctor checked my eyes and reviewed the pictures taken of the back of my eyes . Said no sign of diabetes, but could not see what is bothering my right eye. It was a good visit. Made another appointment for next year's annual check up.

I've been a patient of Dr Smetana's for many years and am grateful for his caring approach to treating my glaucoma. I'm confident that he'll do everything he can to keep my pressures down and my vision intact.

Dr. Smetana is a warm and friendly physician who shows empathy and interest in his patience. He is gentle, thorough and precise in his diagnosis and treatment. I strongly recommend him and feel that he is the best ophthalmologist I have ever known.
