Dr. Sheryl Mc Niven Smith, MD

I went because of a court order for workmans comp as Dr. Smith was the "IME" for the opposing side. What a joke this turned out to be. The Dr. was not truthful nor did she do a proper exam. She did X-Rays for an Achilles Rupture (MRI) was needed - then stated I had refused to let her examine me. It was all recorded so I know she was not truthful. In turn, I ended up having to have a surgery (with a different Dr. thank goodness) and I have only had some hiccups after doing physical therapy. I would RUN (pun intended) away from this Dr if I were you. She does not have patient care in mind, she does not know what she is doing and is biased - ingredients for a bad dr.

I have had 3 surgeries on same foot over 3 years . I did the surgery for a bunion and a bone fusion to relieve pain . It never worked. Went back because of same pain recently and they said ex ray looks fine so why do I have pain ??? . I’m so disappointed with Dr Smith. She’s running away from the problem. Before I asked Doris her nurse before any surgery if I could run after this surgery, she said if I could run before surgery I could run after. There’s no way I can run know, would have been better off leaving bunion alone! Very disappointed with doctor Smith , could tell much more about pre surgery and surgery but I won’t.

I cannot say enough about my entire surgery! Without question Dr. Smith is first rate. My hat is off to her and her entire staff! Thank you very much for making me feel so comfortable and trusting.

Some doctors feel they know what is wrong BEFORE you can explain the issues. My advice is take the time to find a different doctor.

I had one appointment with the doctor. I did not see her, I saw her PA, which was fine. I have called four times to schedule an appointment. They say they will return your call in twenty-four hours. Well, don’t hold your breath you will die before they get with you if they ever do.

She did hammertoe surgeries on both of my feet, using pins. Several pins broke off in the toe bones. 3 years later, I have had 3 massive infections (including MRSA), 3 hospitalizations, 5 surgeries, a partial amputation, 3 rounds of home IV antibiotics with PICC lines, lots of time off work, immeasurable pain, and I might not be done yet because one more pin resides in my 4th metatarsal bone.

I have not actually seen MD post-op. Only PA. Very competent Surgeon. Very poor follow-up care. Medical Technician left a suture in and did not wash hands or use sterile technique when removing sutures. 3 casts before a cast that was right was applied. 2 trips to ER for post- op care.

I had a lot of foot issues from 2011-13 (~peroneal tendonitis, calcaneal stress fractures, plantar fasciitis). Unlike older physicians, who seem to be very rigid/opinionated with their approach, Dr. Smith was very open-minded/flexible and catered to my needs as a serious runner. She gave good shoe advise, and referred me to pedorthist James Drain, who solved a lot of quirks with my feet (~like needing softer insoles instead of orthotics). I continue to recommend her to friends with foot issues.
