I have been seeing Dr. Stephen Schmidt at the Des Peres (and more recently) the St. Peter's locations for well over a decade for an assortment of pain-related issues. Not once have I ever experienced the negative experiences shown throughout this forum - not once. If I could, I would dearly love to have him as my Primary Care Physician because of the manner in which he cares (and cared) about my situations. In my opinion, all any Doctor can do is "try" to match up what works with the malady presented. Sometimes "things" simply are beyond effective treatment. I trust this Doctor implicitly and highly recommend him. Staff issues are another matter and most probably should be reported separately; however this forum does not provide for that separation.

My wife went in today to be seen by Dr. Schmidt. Ms. Abernathy was rude and disrespectful to my wife.

First time appointment and was totally appalled by his lack of compassion. He hadn't even read over the paperwork that I had taken the time to fill out before my appointment to know what I was dealing with. I even gave him a printed article from the Journal of Nephrology to read on my diagnosis and he looked at the paper and said to me "What do you want me to do with this? This doesn't help me?" Well, if you would READ it maybe you would understand what I'm struggling with? Asked me questions that really didn't pertain to what I was there for and told me I should go to a University physician instead of the small town doctors I was dealing with. Been there, done that and they weren't any better. For those reading this comment, I highly recommend you locating a different pain management doctor who doesn't treat you like scum.

Dr Schmidt was arrogant and uncompassionate from my first visit. He was terrible at explaining my condition or a treatment plan, terrible. If you are looking for a doctor who will explain your condition and option and who cares-DO NOT GO TO HIM!!!

Dr. Schmidt is the best pain doctor I've ever had treat me. I can tell him where my pain is and he knows exactly where to go and what to do. When I first started seeing him for pain management, I was taking 2 7./325 percoset 4 times a day. I now take only 4 a day instead of 8. This doctor is brilliant when it comes to managing pain.

Shows no bed side manner. Obviously in it just for the money. Does not explain options for care. Not caring.

He is so arrogant and, I cried because so upset and felt so awkward with him and he just stared at me. He doesn't care about patients just making money. Some office staff person told me that he doesn't do follow ups he wants you to see his nurse practitioner who is a female Hitler and has no business being in this field of work. She's so strange. Dr Schmidt just wants to do procedures but I would never let him do anything to my back. Please find another pain doctor there are good ones out there.
