Dr. Thomas Patrick Heffernan, MD

I live in a medium size north Texas city and was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer. The lab report suggested ovarian origin. My local oncologist started me on chemo and said surgery was not an option. After the third chemo treatment my husband and I decided to get a second opinion and we ended up in Dr. Heffernan's office in Plano. He ordered labs and a CT scan and told me that surgery was an option. He scheduled me for surgery at Medical City Plano on a Wednesday and I was discharged on Friday after major surgery. I recovered quickly and he started chemo again. After another three rounds of chemo my scan showed no signs of cancer. Since ovarian cancer nearly always returns he wrote a script for a once daily chemo pill. When my insurance denied the prescription his staff appealed and my insurance reversed their decision and approved the medication. I am doing well thanks to Dr. Heffernan and his team. My life is back to normal and I would recommend him to anyone fighting… gynecologic cancer.

Dr. Hefferman is very professional and experienced. I was blessed to have him as my surgeon. My surgery went well. All of the staff at the hospital spoke highly of him as well!

Dr. Heffernan cut my bladder during what I understood to be fairly routine and uncomplicated surgery. He had a very cavelier attitude about his mistake and never once said he was sorry or that he felt bad it happened. Instead he explained in a condescending tone that it was "really no big deal because the bladder is very resilient, and that people freak out unnecessarily when it happens." Really? No big deal that I was sent home with a catheter bag and zero information on what to expect with this difficult recovery. No big deal that I was unable to leave the bed for 5 days - fever, uti, incredible pain. No big deal that the night after surgery I woke up, unable to get up on my own, to find my catheter bag full of blood and no idea what to do. No one prepared my husband for emptying my catheter bag because I was too weak to walk. No big deal that not a single person from his office called once after the surgery to inquire about my well being. I am completely floored at the lack of… care I experienced and absence of concern for me after such a serious mistake was made

I fell in to Dr Heffernan care luckily. Ovarian cancer snuck up on me & I got the best care from Dr H & Katie & the best nurses at medical city Plano. Although I hope to never see him again,I'll never forget any of them & hold any medical personal to their standards

Dr Heffernan has to have the best bedside manner. He takes time to speak and listen to you. I was side swiped with cancer and he did everything in his power to make me understand everything. I would highly recommebd this man with a Heart of Gold-Dawn Novak
