Dr. Wambura Neema Mkono, MD

Spent ten months fighting lung infection; changed to Dr Mkono within a week feeling 100 percent better. Great office crew also . Never breathed easier.

I can appreciate that doctors, especially lung specialists are overworked because of Covid, but when a new patient shows up with concerns, I would imagine you put your "rant" on the back burner and do your job. I was told to submit my "paperwork" weeks prior to my appointment. I personally dropped it off and showed up today early. I sat in the waiting room and they came out and took my ID / Insurance and PAYMENT. That would tell me I'm registered and all is well. I went into the Doctor's office who berated me because my paperwork was incomplete -- I asked if there wasn't someone entering the information who would have called me if anything was missing? She said they don't register people until the day of because what if I didn't show up??? (Then why was I required to have my paperwork in weeks earlier?) Then she went on to tell me that I should make a new appointment and that she has a 3 month wait. I explained I had waited 2 months to see her and had a referral specifically for… her. She then went on a rant how she isn't going to take anymore referrals, because everything gets backed up and how she doesn't get home until midnight every night because there is a Pandemic... WHICH I AM FULLY AWARE OF... but she berated me on not having my paperwork done and never once asked what my complaint was or why I was there to see her. She literally had me shaking and in tears when I stood up, took the paperwork and ripped it into pieces. I will be writing to the Medical Board and sharing this with anyone who will listen I too have a job that deals with people, but when I do that job I do it with a smile no matter how overworked I might be, or what mood I may be in, and make those people feel like they are the only people in the room. I have never had an experience like this with a medical professional.

The worst doctor my mom and I have ever visited. She spent the whole time complaining about all the paper work she had to do for insurance and then announced that she didn't have time to do any of the tests that were requested on the referral. She told us that she couldn't treat my mom until she had a catheterization to confirm her condition. Dr. Mkono wrote a note for my mom's doctor saying that she needed a catheterization STAT. that she told my mom to go the emergency room and that we refused. We decided to go to the emergency room after all and the ER doctor said that the way the STAT comments were written, it sounded liked my mom was having a heart attack and he had to admit her to the hospital. Two days in the hospital to confirm that my mom did NOT have a heart attack. When we went to her primary care doctor, he said that the catheterization was too invasive for a 90 year old woman. Her new pulmonologist agreed and scheduled her for a non-invasive breathing function test.

I was a patient at a local hospital (Bethesda West) with pneumonia. Dr. Mkono was assigned to my case. She took the time to discuss my lung issues, explain the treatment I had to look forward to, call my pharmacy to order my prescriptions, and when the time was right she authorized my release. Couldn't have been a better experience.

Worst experience ever. What a waste of my time. Apparently the doctor doesn't care about my time. They would not send me paperwork in advance. After I arrived for my appointment and signed in it took them 20 mins to acknowledge that I was there. They refused to give me the paperwork until they verified my insurance and said until they were sure that she would see me they wouldn't do so. Who does that? You make someone come to your office before you determine if you will see them based on their insurance and ability to pay??? You're supposed to do that before a patient comes to your office. Again, no respect for my time. Then they charged me $50 upfront when my insurance states that I pay 10% of the allowable. This is not the correct protocol for a participating provider for Cigna. I reported her for that. Then when I get in the room, 1 hour later, I heard her tell her staff that she would be back after they entered all my info into the EMR.... REALLY? Now I have to wait… for them to enter my info?? This should have been done before I got into the room. Then when I said that I had already been there for 1 hour and I didn't have all day the doctor told me the all of her patients have to wait for extended periods of time to see her. Again, no respect for my time. I left....this woman is above us all and doesn't know how to run a business. She is conceded, and ignorant and should get someone to run her business that understands customer service.

Dr. Of nothing more than making people feel small. Her lack of organization leads her staff astray. Narcissistic dehumanizing soul. Pity on her patient’s in need of her care she claims to have so much knowledge for

This woman is like an encyclopedia of medicine. I’d been coughing and wheezing something fierce when I went to see her. Turns out I had bronchitis. She was able to prescribe me medicine to fight it and get better. While I was there she told me all about what bronchitis is and what exactly I need to do in order to feel better. Absolute 10 out of 10.

She takes my insurance so I decided I’d go see her since my primary doctor advised me to see a pulmonary specialist about my breathing issues. What a great decision on my part. I was very impressed by Dr. Mkono, and her office. Everything was neat, the other medical professionals are awesome and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was surprisingly pleasant. It was busy, but that’s to be expected I suppose. Oh, shes pretty affordable overall too.

Dr. Mkono is one of those people that’s a true lifesaver. I had a serious condition a few months ago and went to see her. She immediately had me go to the hospital where I was rushed into surgery. Fortunately everything went well and I’m still here today. I owe it all to her and her expertise and quick thinking. Thank you for being a true hero!
