Dr. William E Shay Jr, MD

His skill level is probably adequate, but down deep, I really don’t think Dr. Shay is a nice person. While his quirkiness can appear to be charming at the outset, there is way too much evidence of unprofessionalism for comfort. Because his frustration tolerance is low, both quality and quantity of care suffers inordinately. I complained to Dr. Shay’s employer Outer Cape Health Services about how he unjustifiably alienated me. Despite what in hindsight were repeated efforts on his part to do so, I was his patient for quite a few years. While I made sure they listened to my substantiated complaints, in the end he apparently was never even reprimanded for what in most any other health clinic setting would have surely been grounds for dismissal. The only possible logical reason that Dr. Shay wanted me to seek care elsewhere was that I asked very good and challenging questions and also that I had multiple serious health conditions. Sadly, I was the only one who suffered from the injustices.

Dr Shay is literally the best doctor I've been to, out of any primary and specialist. He has taken the time to get to know me and see the whole person, not just the medical chart, like many doctors make you feel. He's listened, trusted and shown compassion when others haven't. I have an extremely complicated medical issue and he's taken me on as a new patient and put in the time and effort to help me get better. I'm lucky to have found him.
