Dr. William E Smiddy, MD

Believe these reviews - this is the most arrogant, rude toad I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. He cuts you off mid-question, keeps his back towards you and has his assistant literally walk you out of the room when you are still talking. He's mentally unstable and I would not let him clip my fingernails.

Physician was rude, condescending, intolerant of questions, and just downright offensive. Seemed as though he could care less about the patient or their concerns. I am an RN...and I would NEVER recommend this physician to anyone! To Bascom Palmer....this Physician will drive patients away....do what needs to be done!

My experience today with Dr. Smiddy was shocking and offensive. Dr. Smiddy three a tantrum early in the morning in front of patients and threw two patients files at the technical assistant. He yelled that he had 90 patients scheduled for the day and would walk out if someone did not rotate the patients into the rooms every two minutes. I was so afraid of his angry tirade I refused to see him. He is burnt out or worst suffers from psychotic episodes. This doctor is mentally unbalanced.

I am have been his patient for over a year now for retinal detachment. He not only is an expert in retinal surgery but also treats your psychological trauma. He is kind, patient and gives you hope when you most need it. I look forward to my appointments at Bascomb Palmer Naples. All the Drs I have seen there work as a team and have been supportive. Went to him for 3-4 years as vision worsened. Took three years for him to consider an MRI. By then, optic nerve ruined and lost 95% of sight in one eye. If aneurysm had been found sooner, my sight would be fine.

I have seen and treated with Dr. Smiddy three times. He is always in a hurry with his hand on the door knob acting bothered when I ask a question following his exam. He was extremely rude and sarcastic to my daughter over the phone when she asked him a question. He truly acts inconvenienced with questions. He obviously has too many patients because he doesn't have time or patience to begin with.

Though we are sure he is a renowned and accomplished surgeon he has forgotten to care or spend time with patients and families even when the diagnosis is not good. Treated us like a nuisance and waste of his time. Sorry we spent all this time traveling to see him.

Quick and inefficient. What ever will get you out. Turn his back when he is done minimally examining you and see ya. A very poor representation of a Bascom Palmer "professional" What a joke.

Entire staff very efficient and professional. Techs Jonathon, Christopher, and Jessica (or Jennifer) were friendly. Tina was OK.
