Very caring and knowledgeable. Really good surgeon.

Made the mistake of seeing Dr. Walters for chronic bloody cough concerns. I guess my symptoms were not exciting enough for him because he did not even do an exam and sent me back to my PCP. Spent the entire time speaking to his assistant and did not make eye contact with me.

Dustin Walters changed my life. I was diagnosed with severe generalized Myasthenia Gravis at the age of 20. My prospects were grim, with little hope of leading any form of an active and fulfilling life. One year after diagnosis, I had an appointment at UVA hospital, with Dustin Walters. He recommended that I undergo a full vertical sternotomy in order to remove my thymus and it's surrounding fatty tissues. He informed me of a recent study showing that this surgery presented high remission rates, as many as 75% of people, who recieve it within 1 year of diagnosis. I asked him, if it were him, what would he do...he said he would go through with the surgery if it were him. 1 month later, I lied on an operating table with Mr. Walters sawing my sternum in half. I recovered quickly, he put me back together well. It has been almost 3 years since that surgery, and as soon as 2 months after my surgery, I entered FULL REMISSION and that is WITHOUT ANY medications. This man did not only give me… my life back, he gave me back the ability to fulfill hopes and dreams that I've always had. Works cannot express my gratitude, and there is no person that I would recommend more if you are in the same position that I was. I know that it is terrifying. It never stops being scary. But this surgery is your best chance at a normal life....

Unfortunate experience for my loved one who unfortunately died from surgical complications. Poor coordination of care.
