Dr. Dwight Paul Ligham, MD

I have Psoriasctic Arthritis and have had pain issues for years. My primary doctor has me on Tramadol. My pain level has increased in the past couple of years and I asked for other options. My doctor referred me to Dr Ligham. I had gone there 10 years ago and left due to a very bad experience that left my entire right side of my body num from a treatment he did on my spine for a week. My present GP suggested there may be new treatments and that I should give it a shot. Went there. He sent me for xrays. I have bone on bone in my spine. He said the only treatment is "molecules " in a pill form. Opiods. I had serious issues with taking them even though tramadol falls into a similar category. I have taken them before and the ups and downs are horrible. Dr Ligham said they have gotten better so I gave it a shot. We went with the lowest dose possible. Within 2 weeks I was in debilitating pain. I called his office to speak to him. They said to email him. He finally responded 2 days later and… said to wait for my appointment in 2 weeks. When I went to my appointment I seen a PA. I explain to him my situation and he said I had to make another appointment to see the doctor to change my script. I emailed the Doc again and he said he would see me on the next appointment, 4 weeks away. I could barely walk at that point so I upped my dosage myself. Of course I ran out. When I finally got to see the doctor I explained my situation again to him. I had to refill my tramadol because I could not wait another week to see him. I was up front with him and issued me a warning. He said if I do that again he's taking me off the program. I again explained my situation and he did not want to hear it. I was made to feel like a junky and a 2 year old. He refilled my script and up the dosage. The pharmacy refilled the script by accident not realizing that he dated it for a week out. When I called back to have it fill again he pointed out the mistake the pharmacy made. He said now I have to pay the price now for taking to many last time. So he wanted me to wait this time 9 days before it was filled for my punishment. I went by the exact regiment that he presently had me on and still had to be punished. I am 57 years old. I work a very good state job. I have never had a drug addiction problem nor do I wish to have one. I loth taking aspirin never mind this crap. I've explained that to this doctor. He clearly has seen my medical history and my xrays. And still he has made me feel like a junky. I returned to my primary doctor and went back to my once a day tramadol. I will never return there. This doctor needs to find another profession. He is terrible.

This practice is all about revenue and not about proper patient care. They don't return messages. They don't ask for proper medical follow up to adjust your pain meds. It's just overall a terrible experience. Go somewhere else unless you're desperate.

I’ve been a patient for years. This doctor has helped me manage my pain in so many different ways. He has helped me with referrals to other doctors when surgery was the only option. He is the only doctor that I have complete faith in regarding my condition. Dr Ligham is a once in a lifetime doctor as far as caring, patient, listening, understanding and then actually helps with solutions. He will take as much time as needed to actually hear what you are saying along with making sure you understand how to proceed. Pain is not easy especially chronic pain however when you feel your being heard is just as important. He is dedicated in helping patients and I’m blessed to have found him. He has helped me through several spine issues including 2spinal surgeries that were difficult to maneuver. I don’t know what quality of life I would of had if I hadn’t had him as a doctor!

Awful doctor! Extremely judgmental and rude. He does not care about truly helping his patients. I discussed about upping my dosage on the current medication I am on and he tried to force me into a completely different medication that I did not feel comfortable on. Because I said no, he threatened to take me off completely and leave me in pain! He does not care about going over different options he only wants to do what he wants. Please, do NOT see him! One of the worst doctors I’ve experienced!

What an awful man! He clearly judged me before even seeing me. Before I even sat down in his office he said "Why are you even here?". This immediately put me on the defensive. When I tried to explain about the need for pain management after my upcoming spine surgery he cut me off and said, "I looked at your MRI and it's completely normal". I tried to explain that my neurosurgeon, one of the top 5 experts in the world for this condition, wouldn't be planning surgery if it wasn't warranted but he claimed that he knew better and because he'd read many cervical MRI's over the years he knows exactly what normal looks like. Ummmm... I didn't happen to see a neurosurgery degree hanging on his wall. He wouldn't listen, and did not ask about any of my conditions. It didn't even ask for a diagnosis in the 15 pages of paperwork you have to fill out! He started to yell and asked me if I wanted to continue the appointment. I hesitated and said I wasn't sure. He then stood up, told me to… get out of his office and find a different doctor. I am appalled. It's doctors like this that give pain management a stigma. Safe your time and your dignity. Find someone else!

He is an apathetic anesthesiologist who probably took a 6 to 8 week course to get his pain management cert. He barely knows how to talk with patients.

I was at wit's end regarding my pain from degenerative disc disease. I had been to several PM doctors, but all they wanted to do was to shove opioids at me. I decided to give Dr. Ligham a try, and was I ever glad that I did! I wasn't in the waiting room for even 10 minutes when I was called into his exam room. He was very prompt, and was the first doctor to really read my MRI, and he spent no less than 45 minutes with me. He checked me over from head to toe, and explained in easy to understand terms what he found on the MRI, and then he discussed with me my options. He never forced any suggestions down my throat, and we decided on a course of treatment, which would be broken down into very precise steps in order to fully address my issue. Because of the 2012 issue with contaminated steroids for epidurals, I was initially dead set against that procedure. But Dr. Ligham discussed it with me in depth, and for the first time I felt that I had a doctor I could trust to perform the… epidural. He was gentle...explained to me as the procedure went along what he was specifically doing. It was over in no time with minimal discomfort. And while I know that steroid epidurals don't work for everyone, this is the first time in 10 years that I felt normal again. I can walk, I can work in my greenhouse, and while there is still pain...it is at a level that I can live with. Dr. Ligham is not a pill pusher, nor is he mean or nasty. He WILL be firm with his patients regarding opioid pain relief, understandable with the pressure on prescribing doctors in the current atmosphere regarding narcotics and their potential for abuse. For the first time in years I am free of opioid medications, thanks to my caregiver and Dr. Ligham. He and his staff are the reason for my improved quality of life! Ad I would strongly recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Ligham,this is my current pain management ,doctor and he has taken car of me for about the last 12 years, He not only takes you in his office,he makes sure you get the treatment you need.Dr Ligham takes his time and makes sure that you as a patient understands what you are going through,he care be trusted,and he earns that respect.I have had him for a long times and we have a mutual respect for each other and I consider him the best, not only I use him my wife and daughter son in law,that's I much trust I have in him. Thanks Dr. Ligham.

I was originally supposed to see Dr Robbins, but ended up with this heartless poor excuse for a Dr! He was very errogant, heartless&did nothing but put me in more pain then making a ridiculous diagnosis about me. I have fake hips that need to be redone and from dealing with the pain I'm now having heart problems. After waiting an hour and a half he comes in, does a physical exam causing more extreme pain then tells me it's not my hips (I already know it is due to ortho)but my back,this is the only pain Dr I've ever heard giving a diagnosis. Then proceed to tell me he can't medicate me so if that's what I'm after go elsewhere! ! HELLO?!THAT'S YOUR JOB! ! So I paid $400 praying for help to have a somewhat normal life, out of extreme pain beforemore damage to my heart occurres but instead I was put in more pain, treated like a drug seeker and blown off like my life and well being is worthless... thank you so much Dr heartless! For those that say he's a good Dr either don't have true… pain or are gullible in my opinion. This man should not be allowed to practice anything! !! Do not see this con artist if you want real treatment.

From me first meeting with Dr Ligham he has always explained in detail the procedure and showed me the actual results and explained the film I was watching. His assistant Jackie works very well with him- and I never got a negative feeling towards Dr Ligham from anyone in the office! I also find Bayta APRN to be extremely caring and helpful! I've sat in the waiting room watching patients treat the staff with disrespect using foul language when they showed up on the wrong date or time- and never heard a thank you when they were fit into the schedule- even if someone didn't get their lunch due to this patient showing up. It takes a special group of people to deal with a group of patients with extreme pain.
