Dr. Edward Chin, MD

Dr. Chin performed gallbladder removal surgery. Every step of the process was very smooth, from getting a quick appointment to thorough follow up. Dr Chin clearly explained the surgery and what to expect and was readily available to answer any questions the day after surgery. Tiny incisions and back to normal very quickly after surgery. Great surgeon.

If you expect a doctor who truly is committed to help, answer your questions and complies with the Hippocratic oath, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Zero connection with the patient, zero empathy and compassion. The best way to describe this gentleman's communication style is robotic and EXTREMELY confrontational. Dr Chin prescribed a test which was also performed at Mt Sinai.His instructions were not precise .When I asked why, not only Dr Chin he refused to take responsibility for the matter but his answer was abrupt and simply got up and said: "There is nothing else I will do. End of the story. He raised his voice and said :"I'm not going to listen to this. I am a surgeon. Go see a gastroenterologist". If you're looking for a robot to interact with, this is the perfect surgeon for you. If you're looking to be understood and for… help stay away from this practice. Dr. Edward Chin has the absolute worst bedside manner of any Dr. I can ever recall meeting. I am in my 40's so this is a long period over which to assess the beside manner of Dr's. Near the end of our 'conversation', Dr. Edward Chin actually said and I quote "I don't care whether you decide to have surgery or not." The backstory is I came in to get the Dr's opinion on whether I have an inguinal hernia. He did some routine testing and concluded I do indeed very likely have an inguinal hernia. From there, he proceeded to roll his eyes and pedantically correct me at every point. For example, when I asked him if there's any risk to my reproductive health if I don't get surgery to repair the problem in my stomach wall, he never actually answered the question. Instead he said I should call it abdominal wall, not stomach wall. Of course, he's correct but that's not at all the point nor does it even come close to answering my actual question. I asked him again about potential for negative… impact on reproductive health from the hernia and he rolled his eyes and condescendingly said no. From there, I mentioned I was concerned the lower intestine might be descending further into the groin due to the hernia and he said it might not be intestine that's descending but it might instead be fat. I asked him if it is somehow less dangerous depending upon what is descending below the abdominal wall into the groin (i.e.., fat or intestine). He again didn't answer the question but instead said "let's not use words like dangerous" and then began to position himself to exit the room. It was at that I point I told him he's being pedantic and what I need is his help in answering some questions so I can figure out the path forward. I then stated, "Dr. I can't decide to have the surgery unless I'm informed, and I'm looking to you for information." He then responded and I quote "It is not for me to decide whether you choose to have surgery and I don't care what you ultimately decide to do." I was stunned and we both exited the room at same time, but I made sure to again repeat to him that his behavior is unacceptable and his bedside manner is absolutely awful. A Dr. can never tell a patient "I don't care what you ultimately decide to do." In conclusion, Dr. Edward Chin may be a knowledgable Dr with many awards and accolades but he has a truly atrocious bedside manner and I can tell you I have no doubt I'd give him a score of zero if I could and I further believe he doesn't care about his patients. Avoid Dr. Edward Chin at all costs.

I saw the doctor today concerning a Bochdalek hernia; he thoroughly and expertly analyzed and defined what in saw in my electronic profiles. Dr. Chin then outlined a specific plan of action pending further assessment. He made me feel completely at ease with how he discussed my issue and the accompanying complications. He was extremely personable, never rushed my and gave me more than ample time to discuss those items in my health history and their importance in determining which actions to take or not. If surgery is in my future, I feel absolutely secure in having Dr. Chin address my needs.

Dr. Chin was thoroughly professional, down to earth,respectful, and very clear in all the information he gave. Language was clear, not overly technical. He understood that I'd already gotten the basic facts from other doctors in the process and didn't try to recreate all that by starting from Square One, but made sure I really understood what was involved. He took the time to access me on his own as far as my understanding and how realistic and informed my expectations are. He was willing to answer any questions and didn't mince words about risks and recovery, but was not alarming or coddling. It is a good happy medium balance he strikes. A young trainee sat in on the discussion and he was sure to properly introduce her and her status and made me comfortable in including her in my addressing of comments and observations. I felt totally comfortable and convinced I'd be in good hands with the experienced and caring Dr. Chin and would be happy to say so to anyone else considering… surgery.

It's only fair that If I am going to wait more than an hour to see the doctor, that I get ample time with the doctor and the doctor doesn't spend 10 minutes visit in which he only turns his head and rolls his eyes every time you ask a question. I felt rushed and not cared for. He didn't seem interested in my questions or concerns. Not a good vibe especially if you need to trust him to do surgery on you.

Dr. Chin is not only a superb surgeon, but he is also a wonderful person full of compassion and patience. He takes time to explain things so that you understand exactly what needs to be done or what has been done. His bedside manner is exceptional. He has a gift that all doctors should have. We are fortunate to have had him to care for my husband's needs. You will not be disappointed with him.

Had a hernia operation, and I was able to walk the following day(slowly). Didn't have much pain as I had in previous hernia operations.
