Dr. Edison Victor De Mello, MD

For over ten years Dr. DeMello and the Akasha Center have been with me in sickness and, just as importantly, health. In times of sickness Akasha has been able to help me on many fronts including traditional western medicine, acupuncture, physical therapy, and excellent referrals to augment their care when deemed necessary. And in seeing Dr. DeMello and being treated by him (supplements, cleanses, vitamin IV drips, etc) in times of health, I’ve been able to avoid having too many issues of sickness. I always appreciate how Dr. DeMello makes me a partner in my health care by encouraging me to listen to my body and trust my instincts when choosing different approaches to combat a problem. He is also an excellent teacher, staying at the forefront of new advances and explaining them clearly. I’m especially grateful for his guidance during the Covid pandemic. Dr. de Mello is not only a doctor who knows how to listen, but he also knows how to teach you how to "listen to your body". After an initial 2-hour visit and a subsequent 1.5-hour follow-up, I can say that he has both helped me when no other doctor could but has also restored my faith in the medical system, which until I met him, I highly distrusted. My experience with doctors has been that being capable and compassionate do not necessarily go together. Dr. de Mello is both. He spent over 2 hours with me explaining my diagnosis and his approach to the treatment. He was transparent, told me that although the diagnosis was a hard one, I was stronger than any diagnosis and that I could beat it. He gave me hope and confidence while also connecting with other specialists who agreed to join my care team. Having a doctor that looks at me when talking, respectfully explains what he is trying to do, ask for my opinion and "feelings" about the treatment because of the power of the placebo is everything that I've always wanted in a doctor. Literally and figurately. Without going into much much personal and embarrassing details. Under Dr. D's care, I am now able to spend less time in the bathroom and more time enjoying my life. With the help of de Mello and his amazing and dedicated staff, I was able to get rid of this f... SIBO. I had had it for years and had tried so many doctors, regimens, trips to Europe. Dr. De Mello nailed it when he treated my candida overgrowth and MTHF mutation concurrently. I can now eat again, go on dates without worrying about my bloating and gas - and have a life. Just left Dr. de Mello's visit for my 3rd visit. All I can say is wow! This is how medicine should be practiced everywhere. Kind staff, peaceful office setting, non-rushed, very compassionate and knowledgeable doctor, other practitioners actually coming in to integrate the visit.
