Dr. Tovar at PIH, Whittier saved my fathers life. He is a high risk cardio thoracic specialist. His service & ethics are impeccable. His team simply the best. My father 4 months from being 88 yrs old was a very, very sick man. He went into heart failure, his kidneys were failing, Dr Tovar put him in CCU under heavy sedation, waited for the right window & did a quadruple bypass & mitro valve replacement. Dr. Tovar replaced a St. Jude mechanical aortic heart valve, which had developed a calcium shelf, with a cadaver valve. He followed up with the manufacture to find out the mechanical valve had reported problems and helped to secure replacement of the valve. Due to a congenital disorder that required the first valve replacement, the root and valve were very small. Dr. Tovar had to enlarge the root in what was a very complicated surgery. The anesthesiologist stopped by my home to check up on me. He said he had never seen such a complicated surgery or a surgeon so composed and capable. I am doing great nine years later. My cardiologist is very happy with my heart function. It was life saving to Dr. Tovar in my corner.
