Dr. Edward James Britt, MD

There sometimes is a wait to get an appointment. Dr. Britt is an excellent physician spend an inordinate amount of time with me. I highly recommend this physician. The staff in the Pulmonary Clinic (Outpatient in in the hospital) are also wonderful.

Was referred by my pulmonologist to Dr. Britt who I saw in 2008 to determine whether I had a lung infection diagnosis of TB, MAI/MAC, or something else. I've seen crass "bedside behavior" by other doctors & was unaffected because there was a positive end result. This physician gives a whole new meaning to horrible bedside manner. He not only was off-the-charts rude (i.e.: opens the door, stands in the doorway for what seemed like forever and kept looking at my husband and I finally asking "what are you here for?". Thinking he just might have a dry sense of humor, I tried following along and answering but he remained just as confused and rude the entire time I sat in his office.), he never examined me, never suggested or referred me to get any testing, never even listened to my chest, and barely opened my chart. Over half-way through my visit, he finally said, "Most of MY patients are aids patients who end up with a lung infection during the last stage of their lives." I looked at… him, thinking, "Is there something I need to know?" There wasn't...just him basically "communicating" that somehow I arrived at the wrong place. When asked what should I expect to happen if not diagnosed correctly and treated, he explained that "Many people eventually just cough something up and that's the end of it" to which I replied, "then I could possibly cough up something like a 'hairball' and be fine?" He said basically. He then handed me a sputum cup and told me to take it home and cough something up then take it to a lab. I kept repeating that I have a dry cough and am not coughing anything up & he repeated his directions. I left with the cup and never went back. I wasn't going to pursue getting this treated after that experience until my doctors kept urging me to follow through and see another specialist. After finally doing so, having a 2nd biopsy, taking 3 antibiotics for a year, another catscan showing the nodules in my lungs had increased in quantity, I was again referred to this guy - no thanks. Anything good written in his bio's is a joke.
