I also was stunned to read the awful review Dr. Dean got. My husband is chronically ill and in pain almost constantly. Dr. Dean has been wonderful in helping him! manage the pain. He's also counseled me,a s well as being my doctor. One of the best.

In the course of looking for other information, I happened to come across the single review above of Dr. Dean who has been in practice in Northampton for over 15 years. This review highlights for me the danger of individuals looking at a single review and attaching any importance at all, especially since the doctor has been practicing for over 15 years and a tremendous amount of data is potentially available. Let me increase the sample size from one to two, but adding a second patient with an extensive experience with the doctor--not a patient with a single problem and a strong notion of what the desired treatment should be. Dr. Dean is everything you would want in your doctor. He is intelligent, experienced, patient, thoughtful, painstaking, and caring. As a single example, this week, on his time off, he communicated with my wife and I about a complicated medical problem, offered advice, followed up to see the impact of his treatment, and kept in touch until he could pass us on… successfully to a cardiologist at Brigham-Women's in Boston. Everyone should have the quality of care we have been fortunate to receive!

Dr. Dean demonstrates a total lack of compassion, refusing to provide adequate pain relief when I endured FIVE contiguous rib fractures. Further, he later misrepresented his 'approach to pain relief'. His approach to Pain Management is quite at odds with approaches approved by various 'Pain' societies. Being a retired Anesthesiologist I suggest my review here might be worthy of serious consideration. My low overall evaluation is the result of his behaviors on issues not addressed in this questionnaire.
