Dr. Edward Ernest Gustavson, MD

My son was seen by this doctor a few years ago. The visit was for a behavior problem. During the visit he had my son do various things like wash his hands, play with some toys and a few other things. He then asked me a few questions. At the end of the appointment he told me my son was Autistic because he likes to play in the water, had an aversion to food, etc. I had to correct the doctor a few times. I never once mentioned a food aversion. In fact, my son will eat almost anything the rest of our family eats. Also, what 4 year old kid doesn’t like in playing water? I was upset with being misquoted by him. Later, I asked for a copy of my son’s records. He had written things about me in there too. He insinuated that I was kind of flighty, couldn’t make up mind on things. I’m sure others have had positive experiences with him. But, ours was not.

My son's appointment was scheduled for 9:00 am one morning. He was not seen until 9:30 am. Dr. Gustavson spent at least fifty minutes of the appointment explaining to me what ADHD was and how it affected my son. He barely spent time getting to know my son or myself and our history. I later asked for a diagnosis of ADHD to be sent to my son's school for a 504 plan. I then found out the information sent to my son's school had miss quotes from me, the wrong list of medication my son had taken and an additional diagnosis on it that was never brought to my attention. When I asked the office manager Jodi to change the incorrect information she refused. My experience with this office is that they are extremely unprofessional and I am currently in the process of filing a complaint. I do NOT recommend Dr. Edward Gustavson or his office.

Dr. Gus is a developmental doctor and is a great doctor. His methods are great, step by step and knows what he is doing. He told me to say only one word at a time to describe things since my son would not be able to understand the complete sentences/instructions when he was 2, 3, 4, 5 years. But, now my son is 10 years and he is able to talk a little bit and to understand/follow instructions. I think that all kids with ADHD, autism, etc are wired differently and therefore we can not treat and teach them like any regular kids. God bless you all.

He rushed through my daughters appointment and didn't really get to know her or ask me any questions. He made her play with blocks then told me everything that was wrong with her. I'm sure he thinks every kid is the same. After her appointment i made a new appointment for 6 months later. A day before the appointment i called to confirm and the lady on the phone said he switched offices. I had to make a new appointment and they kept none of my daughters information. She was gonna be treated like a new patient. Never again will I bring my daughter to a place that can't even send a letter or call to tell someone who has an appointment that they moved.

Awful is the only word to use. Treats you like cattle just herds your child through quick as can. Doesn't answer question and all Autistic kids are the same to him. On top of that the ldaies at front desk are rude. He will never see my child again!!!

We saw Dr. Gustavson today for my 2 year old son who was born prematurely and has been having some behavioral issues that concerned my husband and me. We just wanted to make sure that his behavior was within normal range of a 2 year old. Honestly I was not that impressed. In fact I was really disappointed and won't be going back. I have waited over a month for this appointment and most of the appointment I sat there listenting to how he was writing a book about "bloodpressure brain" and I felt like he thought he knew everything. Theory is that my sons blood pressure rises when he becomes upset causing him to act out. Hmmm well of course when you get upset your blood pressure rises. Then I was told to lock him in a room for time out when he acts out. Yes IN A ROOM!!! AND i'm not supposed to say "please" or "thank" you because he doesn't understand those terms even though he uses them all of the time in the rite context. He actually asked me condenscendedly when I said thank you… to my child "do you really think he understands that word?" I'm also not supposed to talk in complete sentences to my child but instead only use 2 to 3 word phrases. Like instead of saying "Here is the ball." I should say "ball!". Like he's an idiot. I'm sorry but no thanks!!!!!!

My son has been a patient of Dr. Gus for several years. He is a very caring and dedicated physician. He takes time to answer all questions and concerns. He has caught problems before anyone else has. Another point in his favor is that we switched to Dr. Gus from another MD and he didn't force my child to go through the 4 hours of testing that the only other developmental pediatrician in Oklahoma required to be seen. I would recommend Dr. Gus to anyone that wants great care for their child.

I would not take my daughter to anyone else!
