Dr. Edward J Matsumoto, DDS

I’ve been with Dr. M. for over a decade. I’ve had his mobile number for quite some time since he’s performed a couple serious procedures on me (at the drop of a dime). Recently, I was about to travel out of the country until I discovered an extremely painful (and odd in terms of idiosyncratic presentation) sensation in my front tooth. Long story short: I texted this to Dr. Matsumoto, and he immediately replied he had an opening the next day. After discussing history/symptoms of this tooth woe, I made the informed decision to go with a root canal on my lower incisor. He was “80-85% sure” this would solve the problem (not bad odds), and toward the end of the procedure he was “90-95% sure” based on what he discovered during the procedure. Dr. Matsumoto considered a number of variables including data from an electric sensitivity device, x-ray, visual inspection, and historic information. I had thought a total tooth extraction would be in order, and we had discussed this option during his… diagnostic formulation. I agreed with the root canal because it seemed most appropriate for what appeared to be a dying nerve, but also because it would give me one week (before I left) to perhaps confirm this was the right procedure. The actual root canal was essentially painless, and the tooth was a bit sensitive at the top after he filled it, but this faded quickly as days passed. However, about five days later I experienced a weird sensation, so I texted Dr. Matsumoto…who reminded me (how did I forget?!?) that the healing process was akin to overcoming a sprained ankle. My apprehension was pretty much based in the fact I was getting ready to leave the country (when I wouldn’t have access to Dr. M. if needed). He totally understood that. And that’s what I like about Dr. Matsumoto; he’s someone who’s top-notch, approachable, pragmatic, and sensitive.
