Dr. Edward Oklan, MD

Dr. Oklan is one is a one in a million kind of guy. He is personal. He listens and you KNOW he is with you while you are sharing with your heart. He is just the kind of clinician you want to come back and continue with...If TOGETHER you decide medication may help you, he is an expert and I trust his judgement. Dr. Oklan returns calls promptly, is flexible with scheduling and and he is on time, every time. I've never had to wait (but I would) nor have I had difficulty making a timely appointment. And, he has great follow up. He will call to check on you...how many doctors do that. He is an expert diagnostician and that only comes with years of experience which he has. This is a kind, good man who is there for you. I definitely recommend him because, for me, seeing him has made my life better.

Dr. Oklan has cared for my adult mentally ill son since he was in grade school when he first experienced difficulties. Then, and since, over the years our family has depended upon his judgment, medical and personal skills, and feel our confidence has not been misplaced. He is a warm human being with superior skills.

My heart breaks everytime I think of Dr. Oklan and the fact that since he knew my son's half sister that he chose to formulate a working diagnosis of bipolar like he diagnosed his sister. After appropriate testing not offered by Dr. Oklan, it was confirmed that our son had Aspergers, or as he like to say he was a high functioning autism. Dr. Oklan failed to recognize that his frustration and lack of social skills was Aspergers and not bipolar. So he was medicated rather than recommending professionals with skill to assist him exist in this world. It is easier to give a pill; it is harder to identify the source of the issue. Bipolar is a typical and easy diagnosis for uncontrollable teenagers. Finding the real problem is a challenge that is not in Dr. Oklans skill set. As parents, do yourself a favor. If seeing Oklan make sure you get the appropriate testing and most important get a second opinion. Dr. Oklan is not a god and in fact, is he a professional or just another… Marin County shrink taking the easy way out and passing out drugs for behavior issues.

Dr. Oklan helped my teenage daughter, who was diagnoses as bipolar, during a very difficult time. He gained her trust and helped her in direct ways and indirect. As a single parent, I used him as a sounding board and got wise counsel. He really went a long way to saving her and making me more or less sane during a trying period. He is a tremendous resource for teenagers with serious challenges
