I am a pain management physician whose main goal is to decrease pain and increase function. As an interventional pain physician, my first obligation is to properly diagnose the patient's pain generator. Once the cause of the pain is satisfactorily determined, I am able to use corrective measures such as percutaneous discectomy (DeKompressor or nucleoplasty) or percutaneous placement of bone cement (vertebroplasty). For discography proven painful discs I perform procedures such as DiscTRODE or IDET.

When corrective measures are not available, I will decrease the pain response using neuromodulation (dorsal column stimulator, intrathecal narcotic pumps, epidural infusion devices), nerve destruction/ablation (radiofrequency, cryoanalagesia) and therapeutic injections (steroids, local anesthetics, synvisc).

As a medical director, I understand the benefits of coordinated pain management and take a multidisciplinary approach to the care of the patient.

Dr Washabaugh provided many solutions to the pain symptoms I was having. He took the time to listen and understand, then explained all possible avenues of treatment. He never pushed for one option over any other but what I felt comfortable with trying first. Dr. Washabaugh and his staff are all very professional , knowledgeable and make you feel important.

Always great doctor/patient conversation; extremely knowledge and interested in progressing with a successful treatment. Office is prompt and responds quickly to requests. So is Dr. Washabaugh! Definitely the best around!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Washabaugh at Michigan Pain Specialists. He is by far the most knowledgeable doctor I have seen for my complex conditions, especially regarding Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) treatment. Dr. Washabaugh actually takes the time to listen, understands the details of what I’m experiencing, and explains things clearly without rushing. He’s compassionate, calm, and makes me feel like I’m genuinely being heard, something that’s incredibly rare. The SGB procedures he performs have been life-changing for me, and I feel completely confident in his skill and expertise. His team is also kind, professional, and supportive at every visit.
