Dr. Eileen Fermin, MD

One of the best doctors I have gone too in my 77 years. She is amazing. Felt like she knew me the minute we met. Warm and fuzzy yet so professional and caring. Just loved her.

My wife has been seen by dr. Fermin in Sebastian with Dr morel for several years. Knowing that my wife was an alcoholic dr. Fermin kept prescribing her Lorazepam & antidepressants and other medications, which dr. Fermin should have known don't mix with alcohol. (Beware pill pusher) My wife was starting to show signs of liver problems in fact quite obvious signs that a good doctor would have caught thru my wife's blood work and observation during the examination. In fact my wife made a comment about her belly being swollen ,like she was pregnant and Dr Fermin laughed about it. I her husband did some research and print it out from the medical journals about the mixture of alcohol and those drugs and faxed it to dr. Fermin office but I got no response. (completely ignored) and dr. Fermin kept on prescribing the drugs Well to make a long story short my wife was admitted in the emergency room. THEY found out she had stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver which could have been taking care… of, if caught earlier by a competent doctor! Now she's going to Mayo clinic in Jacksonville which is a drive for us but she's being taken care of and she's on the liver transplant list. AND having all sorts of tests done. she also is getting better no thanks to Dr Fermin. So if you have anything other than a common cold or need medication? I would find a more competent doctor another asap! I'm surprised dr. Fermin still is practicing medicine.. ...

I have been without my Nexium for over a week because your uncaring staff need to submit it to some sort of processing out-sourcing company. Your service used to be pretty good. Now it sucks. You should remember it is about people not the bottom line.

This may be quite long, but will give insight that will be helpful to any considering this practice, so I encourage any considering Dr Fermin or her office to read on.... Dr Fermin was good on my first visit and I thought I had found a great primary care doctor, however as the visits continued she was less attentive and didn’t seem to care as much about the patient. She didn’t listen. She gave me samples of a medication to try for something I had chronic issues with rather than just prescribing me what worked for me - and she knew I was breastfeeding at that time and she swore the medication was okay, but after my own research the medication she gave samples of wasn’t one that was recommended for anyone pregnant, planning to become pregnant or anyone breastfeeding as it said there WAS NOT enough studies done to determine if it would go through into breastmilk the baby would get. I didn’t take it at all. I can’t stand when doctors give “samples” and approve of facilities that don’t… offer them because usually there’s something in it for the doctors or facility, which crossed my mind when seeing that this was absolutely not a medication someone breastfeeding should take and I’m glad I didn’t listen to Dr Fermin and put my baby at risk of getting any. Back on my first visit she had said she was totally okay with maintaining a medication I was on for MANY years (I had recently moved to the area so was having to re-establish with another doctor). At a later visit we discussed changing the dosage of my medication as it wasn’t working. She said during my visit that she’d be willing to adjust it and recommended we check into other medication to go with it. I told her I had tried the other medication in the past and it didn’t work but she didn’t listen and insisted she’d check on the medication and get back to me. It came time to refill my medication and just happened to be a couple of weeks before Christmas so I called the office. I was then informed that Dr Fermin wouldn’t fill the medication (which made no sense given we had just discussed it with nothing from her that she didn’t intend to continue filling it). This was upsetting as it’s a medication that can actually induce seizures if gone off it too fast, which I’d have had to do with the situation she put me in. I’ve never had seizures and the thought of that happening because she wouldn’t prescribe my medication was horrible. Even more horrible was how we told them that the medication can’t be gone off fast like that and asked she fill it once more until we can find another doctor that would and she refused, knowing she was possibly going to cause her patient those issues. For the record it was something I’d called in a couple other times to get filled before with no issues. So that made me have to scramble to find another doc or have to go to ER so I’d not have to go through going off it fast and risking inducing seizures as a result. Needless to say after she dropped that one me, I was really wary of going back to a doctor that would be fine prescribing me a medication when I’m in office and telling me to just call when I need refills, to suddenly putting me in a bind before holidays when lots of businesses close down and not even caring what her patient may suffer from her actions, or lack thereof. It was a few months and I had fallen and they got me into another doctor there to see for that as Dr Fermin was booked, which I appreciated but was still wary of the facility after the above mentioned instances and given how she seemed to care less and less about the patient and got so she took a lot less time with the patient the longer you were established. She came off rude to myself and also someone I had accompanying me on numerous occasions. Since then I have left messages to get in for my checkup that was past due and also blood work. I have been trying for months to get in to see her and that office is HORRIBLE with returning calls! The worst I’ve ever dealt with! I’d leave messages to set up an appt and they didn’t get returned. I also had called in during business hours MANY times and they didn’t pick up. After doing this for MONTHS, and needing to see her for follow up after a bad car crash I’m told that I’m no longer a patient, which was relayed very rudely to me and I was argued with over calling in many times. The woman at the office said that she specifically remembers returned calls, and I told her there hasn’t been for several months, which she didn’t deny. I told her my situation following an accident that happened 2 weeks ago and how I needed to get in. She told me I had been dropped by Dr Fermin as a patient. When asked why she said she wasn’t aware but it seems I hadn’t been in for awhile. She said she’d talk to Dr Fermin to see if she’s willing to see me or not. I called back immediately and told the woman who picked up of how the person she transferred me to acted horrifically towards me and how she argued. I told her my situation and that I’ve never gotten any mail or anything from Dr Fermin or her facility that she dropped me. This woman went to talk to Dr Fermin who now refuses to see me because according to them I went against policy by waiting to get in (Nevermind the fact that they don’t answer their phones often and if you leave messages they go unreturned) and she’s not taking new patients so she refused to see me. Given the severity of what I needed to see her for this proves she’s she’s a doctor that really doesn’t care for her patients. Also given the many issues I listed above it contributes to a person being wary to go back. I was reluctantly going to do so because of my injuries that needed a follow up but she won’t see me. I attribute lots of this to the fact that their office is horrible about returning phone calls within an appropriate timeframe, IF you’re lucky enough to get calls back.

I found Dr Fermin to be quick with her knowledge of my current issues, she gave me great care and advice. Very nice person, easy to talk to.

Great doctor with a very caring and attentive personality.

Spends very little time with you.....her diagnosis has been off ....asks simple questions...says OK.......listens to your heart and off she goes....not real happy with her as a doctor so will be looking elsewhere.....

She's concerned about her patients and fairly on top of the program with general issues, but I had a thyroid issue and she was not receptive with information on how to properly test the thyroid function, despite endocrinologist studies, even though my thyroid problem was the root of the symptoms I went in to see her about in the first place. I found that rather narrow minded and insufficient as far as trusting her to understand my medical problem. In her defense, none of my other GPs or Gyns have listened to my concerns about my thyroid either ... so I'd say Dr. Fermin was at least open enough to start me on medication, even if she wouldn't do the proper testing ... I guess that's something - but I am switching docs none the less.

Dr. Fermin is a very caring doctor and a very knowledgeable doctor. I have just moved and unfortunately am no longer able to have her as my physician - finding another physician to take her place will be difficult.

Dr Fermin is a decent Doctor, I went to her for 5 years. She has good bedside manners, however, she's often rushed from one patient to the next and isn't the best at diagnosing illnesses. HOWEVER, Her staff is HORRIBLE. The office manager has the WORST attitude I've ever seen in a Doctors office, and most of them act put-off by the patients. I've also heard them complaining and talking bad about patients after they leave.
