Dr. Eiler John Sommerhaug, MD

I had a consultation with Dr Sommerhaug spring of 2011 for reconstruction prior to having a mastectomy. He told me he could not guarantee good results because 25 yrs prior at 28, I had abdominal radiation for ovarian cancer. He went on and on how this was problematic and would make reconstruction not successful. As a Trauma staff member from SRMH, I knew his reputation was not stellar. I left his office, signed up with a surgeon from UCSF and took an oral medication for 9 months to shrink my tumor and then had a lumpectomy. So his horrible consultation was actually a gift to me. Would never recommend this doctor

I went in five years ago for a simple breast reduction on one breast after undergoing cancer surgery on the other. Not only is the result hideous, with thick, raised scarring, and not at all symmetrical with the other one, the scars itch like crazy and I have had pain every day of the five years since. I am in pain right now. Dr. Frankenstein would have done better.

Dr Sommerhaug is in my opinion the best at what he does. My breast cancer treatment and recovery has been long and involved. He has always put my health both mental and physical first. He is always aware of my whole physical picture and has acted accordingly. Evan called my other doctors when he thought something should be looked at in more depth and additional tests are needed. I hope you are not reading this because you have cancer but if you needed reconstruction Dr. Sommerhaug is the one to have on your team. He explains options and results in a clear dialog. Inept group. There are so many good doctors in this specialty, do not put up with the mediocrity of these people.
