Dr. Elaine Therese Vangundy, MD

I was seen by Dr. VanGundy at the Roseville Pediatric office. That was my first time seeing this doctor. This was my daughter’s four-month appointment. When the doctor came in the room, she didn’t even say hello or anything. She just stormed through the door and asked about vaccine reactions immediately when I expressed that we were waiting a little bit longer for vaccines and delaying them because she was premature and I had some concerns, I was told to go ahead and go back to my other primary care doctor instead who had told me that they would work with me with what I was comfortable with. This doctor was incredibly rude. She made comments that were disrespectful. She had terrible bedside manner. She scoffed and laughed when I mentioned one of my concerns. I had other questions, but I didn’t feel comfortable even talking to this person. I felt like I was in the room with a bully. Luckily, I stood my ground. Even if she disagreed with my desire to delay vaccines, there is a definite… way to talk about it with a patient or to educate a patient. I have never left a doctors appointment feeling the way I did today and I will never go back to see this doctor again with any of my children. The other thing that made me absolutely crazy was when I asked about my daughter and if she could possibly be teething, she put her ungloved fingers in her mouth on her gum! I would never even put my beer fingers in my daughter’s mouth let alone a strange! I don’t know why she didn’t put a glove on, and if I saw it, I would’ve stopped it, but it happened too fast! I could not believe that she did that. That made me furious. . Never again will I see Dr. Van Gundy for any reason. Immediately I went out to the front desk and change my primary care for all three of my children. I’ve seen a lot of reviews very similar to this online now that I am looking and it’s clear that I’m not the only one that had this experience I feel like something needs to be said there’s no way that I would want another mom to experience this.

Dr Van Gundy is a bully. She makes parents feel stupid for wanting to have an informed choice. She yells at people and puts them down. I was told by someone else (with a similar experience from her) that she kicks mothers out of her practice if the moms don't agree with her point of view. So much for being a doctor "for the people" and listening to parents and their valid concerns. Also, she is unnecessarily rough with newborns, I was so uncomfortable with how she was handling my baby and tugging at her and pulling apart her eyelids with such roughness. My baby was screaming her head off the entire time and she just continued with her roughness not even taking a moment to calm her down.

My 9 1/2 yr old daughter has been with Dr Van Gundy for approx. 4 years, and she is a Very good doctor. She addresses my daughter and asked her the questions about what is wrong with her at the office visits. If my daughter doesn't answer, she asks me, which I think is good, because my daughter can best tell Dr Van Gundy what is wrong and how she feels. If I am promised a follow up call, I get one! I am VERY satisfied with Dr Van Gundy providing my daughter her medical needs!

My daughter is with Dr Van Gundy because she wanted a female doctor at age 6. The first visit to Dr Van Gundy, I liked that she talked to my daughter and asked her the questions, and calls my daughter by name! And everytime my daughter needs to go to the doctor, she is happy to see Dr Van Gundy!!I am happy that when I need a call back, Dr Van Gundy calls back the same day, and has the answer to my concern and I don't have to probe to get the information!
