Dr. Elizabeth Marie Cottingham, MD

Has a tendency to make assumptions and is a poor listener. Is also more worried about what she thinks versus what her patient thinks. Misdiagnosis and mistreatment has occurred while under her care.

She diagnoses patients with something as quickly as possible and then runs with that narrative. She will not take no as an answer and she will not reconsider anything. She personally made me feel stupid and ignored, would not recommend.

Dr. Cottingham diagnosed my son with adjustment disorder and told him to switch high schools. I knew it was far more serious an illness. She was at times rude and uncaring and seem to be preoccupied with money. Several years later my son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar, multiple hospitalizations. She's a horrible doctor and her personal style is unhelpful and arrogant, not patient centric.

Dr C treated my son for years. She was wonderful. She cut through the nonsense another doctor told us and was able to be a HUGE help to us. WIthout her, we would have used countless ineffective medications for a problem that meds cannot treat. She really understood what was going on, but she was very cautious not to tell us until she had done a full assessment. She is super cautious with medications and doesn't give them until they have a proven track record of safety. I challenged her opinion and she was warm and understanding as we cleared up the issues so that we both understood what was going on. She NEVER pushed us to medicate him either.

Comprehensive, pragmatic, compassionate care. Every time.

Dr Cottingham is undoubtedly smart. However, she can make snap assessments, about the patient and the patient's family without checking her facts. She often pushes her opinion as fact and can be dismissive and aggressive when challenged. She did a number of things which were not professional in the care of our child. She repeatedly disregarded others assessment that our child and delayed the child learning this until much later, at least in part leading to more complications later in life.

I took my daughter to see her regarding her behavioral problems at home. All this doctor seemed to think is everyone has ADHD and should be put on Strattera, without wanting to talk with my daughter as to what is bothering her (she's 12 years old). And Dr. Cottingham also seemed to be very into money, wanting payments upfront, and superficial and curt in my demeanor.

She is a bit pill happy but only when she is sure that it will help or has a very good possibility to help. Dr. Cottingham is an excellent doctor for adolescent psychiatry.
