Dr. Elizabeth Palma Elfstrand, MD

Avoid this doctor completely if you want your delivery to be hassle free. I saw some great reviews of this doctor and being first time parents , we decided to go ahead with her. All my encounters with her at the clinic felt rushed and just basic. Even during 28 weeks of pregnancy, I was barely looking pregnant : In-spite of asking her multiple times, she kept saying that I was petite and that's the reason for it. All my questions and concerns around belly not being big enough or swelling in the body was constantly brushed off and I felt people probably go through same during pregnancy. At 34 weeks, when I went for regular checkup and was super swelled by this time around - She mentioned that all the swelling could be associated to pre-eclampsia. I went to the hospital to get my BP monitored wherein my BP shot up to 400 (up to a level that I could get a stroke). My son was delivered through emergency C-Section and he was barely a 3lbs. baby and ended being in NICU for almost a month… and I went through days of hospitalization with fluctuating BP levels. So, all this time when I constantly told her about the various concerns - It was all preeclampsia. My son could barely grow inside me as all my organs were swollen and it was mostly just water weight. Had she considered at least one of my concerns, there could have been a corrective action and my son would have been born as a normal healthy baby. How can such an experienced doctor not realize this when a first time mom can say that this is not how normal pregnant woman looks like at 28 weeks. If there was one additional scan - it could probably have been identified. Oh..And I forgot to mention, she came to meet me at the hospital only 5 days after my son was born. I know a friend of mine who went through another traumatic experience with the same doctor. So, please do yourself a favor by staying away from her and keep your family safe & healthy.

Despite being a "Top Doctor" we were very disappointed with Dr. Elfstrand. She didn't seem all that interested in practicing medicine and was actually not very good at answering basic questions. I wish we could say she was knowledgeable but it just wasn't the case. My guess is she stops practicing medicine and joins various Boards, committees, etc. (or retires).

Dr. Elfstrand is incredible. After I had my first, she came to visit me before being discharged and she warned me of post partum pre eclampsia, something very few doctors even know about. I had high bp prior to pregnancy, but was able to stop mediation during pregnancy-which again was due to her expertise in how I would react. I resumed my bp meds after birth, but within 24 hours my bp skyrocketed and I was readmitted for another three days. If she had not warned me, I wouldn’t have been checking my bp and could have ended up with a seizure and other complications. With my second pregnancy she had me on baby aspirin as a preventative and had no complications. I really value her honesty, her expertise, her genuine care, her dedication and that she stays up to date on the sciences. She is very busy, rightfully so, so it can be difficult to see her. However, she will try her best to get you in if you communicate directly with her. In addition, the Plymouth staff are terrific. So warm and… helpful as well. I’ve seen Teri Woods multiple times as well and she is also amazing. She really knows her stuff as well!

I would highly recommend dr elfstrand to friends and family. I originally saw her at a "preconception" appointment where she gave great advice and really took the time to answer all of our questions. I've seen her throughout my entire pregnancy and she's been fantastic. She takes the time to ask about things that I might not think to tell her. It can be a little difficult to get lat minute appointments with her but that usually results in seeing her NP, Char, who is also great.

She is the best. She come back from her vacation just to be attend my son's delivery. Smart and great listener, she realized with just one comment that my baby was breech after numerous 'exams' saying that he was fine. She saved us both from a long and problematic delivery. I cannot thank her enough.

Have been going to her for 8 years. She has been my dr. For both of my pregnancies. She is harder to get an appointment because she wants to see you at every prenatal visit instead of handing you of to a NP. She also personally delivered both my children. This type of care is unheard of lately. I would not think of seeing anyone else.

Been going to her for years + 2 pregnancies, and she knows her stuff. She can sometimes come of as adbrupt or disinterested.

while Dr Elfstrand came highly recommended I cannot. the staff was not courteous and I waited nearly an hour. when I did see the Dr. she was preoccupied and not at all thinking about me or my concerns. She may be a popular and an excellent Doc, but I would not recommend seeing her

I saw Dr. Elfstrand for the prenatal/birth of my first son. She is very popular and can be hard to get an appt with...also, if you need to get ahold of her, it can take awhile. After my son's birth, she missed a complication that resulted in my hospitalization.
