Dr. Elizabeth Anne Ferro

Elizabeth Ferro was my pcp before she was licensed at shadyside family health center. She is a racist, ableist, and exploits people of color “and underserved,” communities. She cost me so much money. It’s so negligible for the treating psychiatrist at the time, Dr. Stephanie Richards to allow such an unskilled doctor to treat someone like me with real trauma. This resident doctor petitioned to have me hospitalized at a mental institution like im an invalid; without even contacting my partner. She has obliterated my trust in the mental health institution and it’s ability to adhere to ethical standards. She was a resident at shadyside family health center, and now graduated and is studying in addiction treatment. As someone who was a Guinea pig for her training for “addiction treatment,” I can wholly say she is not competent in that area. People with addictions are still people who deserve respect and equal treatment in care. I had been sober for over a year and upon disclosure of… trauma I went through as a child she had police sent to my house to apprehend me and bring me to a mental institution. She didn’t contact me or my family. It was humiliating and degrading. Even worse; I went on to read my patient charts where my symptoms were egregiously dismissed as being, “Borderline.” I hate to break it to her, but a lot of people with addictions have co occurring mental health issues. I wouldn’t trust her to work with people with addictions in a collaborative and dignified way. I was 30 years when she petitioned to have me committed. I left mental health and the MAT program after this transgression. I hope she reconsiders her medical speciality. Not really interested in women who diminish and exploit women of color with severe mental health diagnosis. She didn’t apologize. Secondly. She was supposed to report to the courts that I had been compliant in treatment. She did not do that. The judge resentenced me to 6 months. It’s laughable that she believes she understands the barriers and inequities in mental health treatment when she is a really large barrier herself.

Dr. Ferro is the most disappointing doctor I’ve ever had and she ran me out of mental healthcare with her extremely abusive treatment methods. I disclosed child abuse to her and she involuntarily committed me, creating MORE trauma. I will never engage with mental health services after this interaction. She’s incompetent and unprofessional. She will make you feel worthless and like a loser for choosing to enter mental health treatment. I became extremely suicidal after she took actions against my health and interests. She disrespected my partner too. She is a racist and and ableist. She does not care about her patients. She is the most harmful provider I’ve ever had. She talks to you like you are stupid and she violates boundaries egregiously.
