Two stars only because she is a trained proffessional and made the correct referral. Imagine your 18 month old child's front teeth rotting away. You make an appointment with a doctor. Get a referral. One tooth breaks before they can be seen. You have two other children you've nursed until the same age with no issue. Your baby is in a fair amount of discomfort which is distressing to yourself, your husband, children and entire family. Enter Dr. Betsy. "This is your fault because you breastfed after 12 months. He needs surgery." Not only is this likely medically false, we didn't know being inconsiderate, condescending, and attributing blame were part of either this doctors medical training or actual job description. In addition, the physician ignored our child's obvious discomfort and offered no advice in how to help him (NSAID, OTC local anesthetic, warm rag, dietary suggestions, etc?). It also preempted any discussion of whether ir not it was strictly the breastfeeding… that caused the rapid tooth decay. Our other two children are fine and, while anecdotal, indicates that other underlying medical conditions may be being simply ignored. This borderlines on proffessional misconduct. While I'm sure the best doctors do not accept medicaid (for a number of reasons) if you have a choice this physician shold be at the bottom of your list. Her staff was appalled, eyes widened when she said this to me. And the folks at the office we called to get a second opinion from couldn't believe she actually said this. Bottom line: look elsewhere, unless you want to be treated as above.
