Elizabeth Axelrod Stegmaier

Dr. Stegmaier isnt available to communicate with through Mychart. She has told me in the past to update her post visit things, such as new meds, how I'm feeling after, etc and with any further questions that come up after I leave. When I do that, and send a message on mychart, 98% of the time one of the nursed will shut me down, and instead of passing my information to my dr they will say I need to schedule an appt. I went to the ER on last monday, no one reached out to me from my primary drs office to check on me. I will get brief blood or thyroid tests result messages, but not really anything to do or change and Ive been dealing with the same issues for almost 13 years and they keep getting worse. My last appt, Dr Stegmaier said there was nothing more we could be doing to control my thyroid disease, and then my husband recommend two medications he'd read about recently for thyroid disease and she said "OH, those might help, sure lets try those" and prescribed them. Ive literally been… fighting the same issues for this long and it took my husband doing research and asking for a prescription. Granted, I'm thankful she did prescribe it, but its pretty crazy that if my husband wouldn't have been there or read about the two meds, my own doctor wouldnt have thought of them on her own. I even asked multiple times if there was anything at all else we could be doing differently to treat my thyroid and she said no, until my husband recommended the meds, and then she thought it was a good idea. I like Dr Stegmaier. I think she does a good job. I just dont think she's as thorough as she used to be and I think theres alot of the same blood tests ran over and over again without changing any care. I also asked for continuous blood tests for my thyroid, and she did put those in. So, she does good when you hsve ideas, she is open to them. However Id really like my doctor to provide more care and more outside the box things that weve already tried so many times. I need my thyroid more controlled and my energy levels and brain fog figured out and I need her to be 100% on top of anything and everything I can be doing and I do feel like there could be more attention from her, more communication, and easier access to her with questions and comments for what/how I am feeling and doing after appts and any med changes. I feel like theres a huge lack in attention for post appts followup, med changes and other reports from other drs. After my neurology appt and the report that was received, Id think that my primary would contact me, get me in to discuss asap. But I was calling to schedule the appt. I just think her office used to focus a little more on personal care for individuals and now it feel like if I don't fend for myself then the care isnt really there. Its very much me asking what else we could be doing, and reaching out, and looking for things that we havent tried before rather than my Dr. When I asked for help finding a Hashimotos specialist she told me to google it. But, she did recommend a psychologist for my neuro recommendation. But I had to ask her about neurofeedback from a past brain injury, which was never recommended to me, that was my idea. Just things that I feel like could be recommended by my doctor for options to help me are not being done and Id like a little bit closer attention when I do come in for an appointment. She is always nice, always willing to consider my ideas, but Id like her to provide her own ideas other than what my husband and I come up with as Im sure there are probably things we have no idea that could help us. Also, my husband sees her and we just found out that when lacking iron stores in the body it actually makes restless legs worse, and if he takes iron with vitamin C at night, to help the absorption, it can help with restless legs. He never knew that and has been struggling with restless legs for years now. Just little things that would be helpful like that to know.

Dr. Stegmaier is interested in my whole being. She asks questions, looks up information when I have questions and takes me seriously. She offers good options that I can try and doesn't just recommend pharmaceutical options. She's top notch and I'm grateful she is practicing at Providence. It's important to me to have a Naturopath on my care team.

Dr. Stegmaier has a very personable and friendly manner, and is definitely solution-oriented. She knew what was needed right away and was reassuring in her diagnosis.

Dr. Stegmaier is always amazing; professional yet kind and easy to talk to. I appreciate her very much.

It's great to feel that a physician cares.

Dr Stegmeier Suspected sleep apnea in January, but I am not the typical snoring kind, after explained both my dad and brother have it,could a referral be made, cannot get into sleep study until end of July so did SleepPlay WatchPat test, diagnosed mild obstructive apnea with combined 17 events per hour. Use Resmed 11 and interestingly enough it shows more central apnea then obstructive so I am ready for the sleep study asap. Have to wait two more months. ~ always shown kindness from everyone there!

Dr. Stegmaier is always an excellent listener and Is an excellent care provider!
