Dr. Elizabeth Stein

On September 25, 2025, my daughter delivered her baby at West Boca Medical Center. Unfortunately, Dr. Stein was on call for the delivery. While every nurse and medical team member we encountered during the induction process was exceptional—compassionate, attentive, and truly supportive—our experience with Dr. Stein was the complete opposite. From the moment she entered the room, her demeanor was abrupt, dismissive, and unnecessarily hostile. As the grandmother present for the delivery, I was shocked by the way she spoke not only to me, but also to the nurses who were assisting her. It created an environment of tension during what should have been a joyful and meaningful moment for our family. During the delivery, I was scolded for taking a photo—despite being told during the hospital tour that photos are permitted as long as there is no recording. I was not interfering, obstructing, or near any area that would have impeded medical care. Her reaction was unprofessional and… disproportionate. My daughter had a birth plan that included delayed cord clamping. Not only did Dr. Stein fail to honor this, she cut the cord immediately without acknowledgment of the birth plan or explanation. The NICU team, who were present, allowed me to take pictures afterward with no issue. The most concerning part of the experience occurred after the birth, when my daughter suffered significant bleeding. She was in obvious pain and verbally told Dr. Stein she could feel everything as the doctor attempted to suture her. Instead of responding with empathy or pausing to reassess pain management, Dr. Stein dismissed her concerns and stated, “I’m not even touching you.” The staff in the room—nurses and NICU personnel—clearly recognized the distress the situation was causing. Nurse Cindy repeatedly asked Dr. Stein if she wanted to call Dr. Greenbaum for assistance. Only after continued difficulty did she finally agree. My daughter, who already had low iron throughout her pregnancy, continued to bleed while we waited. During this time, Dr. Stein questioned why “so many people” were present, despite it being only myself and my mother, in addition to required medical staff. She then instructed us to leave the room, which only intensified the stress and confusion. Once Dr. Greenbaum arrived, the tone of the entire situation changed. She was calm, professional, kind, and communicative. She explained every step as she repaired the tear and treated my daughter with compassion—everything we expect and appreciate from a healthcare provider. Her approach was a stark contrast to what we had experienced moments before. However, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Stein as a delivering physician. Her lack of empathy, abrasive communication, and inability or unwillingness to manage a critical moment appropriately left a lasting negative impact on what should have been one of the happiest days of our lives. I sincerely hope no other family has to endure the level of unprofessionalism we encountered.
