Dr. Elizabeth Krin Wickstrom, MD

She was my doctor with my last baby girl. I had a previous high risk pregnancy and so lots of stress and anxiety with my last pregnancy. She was thorough in explaining everything and very thorough. She also had compassion and a great bed side manner that seems rare in doctors these days.

This woman failed to disclose fetal brain abnormalities during the 22 week scan. We lost our baby at 32 weeks. While she smiled in my face she told me she was sending me for an MRI thinking it was too late for our family to terminate. Well, she was wrong. She did nothing to spare the parents or the baby. Very happy she is out of SMMC. Good riddance.

Apparently it is not standard of care. It is not negligence. Dr. Wickstrom is an excellent and caring MD.

Birth defect is not only chromosomal disorder and genetic problem. It includes neural tube defect and body wall defect. In the evaluation for birth defect, specially when amniocentesis was recommended by the OB/fetalMD to obtain amniotic fluid specimen, one would expect test for neural tube defect and body wall defect such as AFP and/or AchE will be done in addition to the test for chromosomal disorder and genetic problems. You expect an OB/fetalMD would know this. One would expect this a standing order/standard of care for the complete evaluation for birth defect.It was not done, now I am very worried the evaluation is not complete and a missed test may be of significance. The amniotic fluid was the perfect specimen for this test as this is a "fetal fluid specimen." That was the only indication for the OB/fetalMD to do the amniocentesis , to do all those test..Amniocentesis was a waste. What kind of OB-Fetal care is that !! Is this negligence.

Not able to provide feedback on diagnosis accuracy/follow up of visit, as my results have not been finalized.

Both of my daughters are healthy young adolescents now because I received proper high risk prenatal care. If it wasn't for the wonderful care Dr. Wickstrom provided; my daughters may have had health problems. Today they are healthy, bright, smart and active youngsters. I'll always remember Dr. Wickstrom and thank her for heartwarming care.
