Dr. Ellen Melissa Cohen, MD

She is always late. She is inattentive during conversations and filling prescriptions. She needs to be buttoned up

When you have an appointment to see a psychiatrist this is probably one of the lowest points you are personally feeling in your life and Dr. Ellen Cohen treated me like I was a number nothing more, I was just another person on her list of patients she sees. She was emotionless, and cold, this is someone that should not be practicing anymore, she is burnt out and she should take time off to really focus on why exactly she does what she does for work. I don't know how you can show up to work everyday and treat people as if they aren't going through probably the hardest point in their lives. Find your passion for your position, because you have lost it. Some advice Dr. be on time; your office expects the patient to be 15-30 minutes early...Why? So I can wait and have my heart race out of my chest because I am so nervous to sit and wait for you to be 30 minutes late for our appointment? Next, shake the persons hand your meeting, look at the person when they're talking to you, show that… you're at least somewhat concerned when the person is telling you the deepest of lows that they're going through, and further more maybe just maybe show to the person your meeting with that you care just a little bit.

Dr. Cohen has been my psychiatrist for almost 8 years now and I am finally going to "fire" her for various reasons. She doesn't seem to really care about me, is very abrupt, critical, unsypathtic and only wants to percrible medications. She got me hooked on benzos, that are clearly not needed anymore and I'm going to ween my self off as I know I am addicted. Please find someone else. I beg you.

Dr. Cohen is courteous, practical, and knowledgeable. She did a great job.

I think that Dr Cohen's bedside manner was terrible. When I asked her about a course being covered by insurance she suggested I sell a piece of jewelry to pay for it. I though this tacky and non professional.

it's true that Dr. Cohen is not a touchy feely type, but I've found her questions and observations to be spot-on. She's pretty strict and no-nonsense, so don't expect to be coddled. But that's not what I need/ed, so I actually appreciate the counsel and care I've received in this office.

She was late for an early morning appt (I was not her first appt) which seems hard to do. Not sure how you can already be behind before 9:00am. Once the appt started she was constantly interrupting me. On the occasion where she let me finish a sentence she was judgmental and condescending. I not only didn't feel at ease speaking with her, I felt very much on the defensive. Needless to say, there won't be a follow-up appt.

If you are visiting this practice, it's for some sort of mental health issue right? Well, you wouldn't know it by the way they treat you. Front desk staff is condescending and rude. The environment inside the office itself just oozes misery. Dr Cohen always seems rushed and abrasive. I can honestly say I am never more depressed than when I visit this office!

If you are looking for a Doctor who will write a prescription with little true evaluation year in and year out, then Dr. Cohen might be for you. Not only does Dr. Cohen have issues with being on time, she clearly thinks that her time is worth more than her patients as she shows little empathy for making patients wait. She will give you the 15 minutes due each patient before she can get on to the next to keep up her billings. Its all about the benjamins in this office.

Terrible psychiatrist. She did not listen to a word I said. When I tried to bring in a loved one for support, she would not even allow her to enter the office until the very end and only with considerable reluctance. When I brought up my concerns, she told me to stop taking all meds, go to yoga for a week and come back for a follow up appointment. When I pointed out that I have already experimented with yoga and meditation to small success at best, she replied, "I can see you are a skeptic". At another appointment, I told her I was having problems with weight gain while taking a new medication. Cohen told me that psych medicines have almost nothing to do with weight gain. She recommended that I simply stop eating instead of complaining (FYI- this happened in the year 2010). Since she does not really believe that there is much of a link between psych meds and weight gain, she refused to lower my dose or consider another medication option. In short, I felt like I was being treated by a… disciple of L Ron Hubbard when meeting with Dr. Cohen.
