Dr. Ellen Early, MD

Dr. Early is wonderful, she is very caring, she calls back her patients. Although visiting doctors give me anxiety, she sits down and really talks to you, takes her time listening. I can't say enough good things about her! Her nurse practitioner Kathy is simply amazing and knowledgeable, Jonathan and Eva also make a great team!!

I happily travel from Jersey City to Morristown to be seen by Dr Early. She is by far one of the most caring and intelligent doctors I go to.

Dr. Early really investigated all the options with me for treatment. She spent the time to review studies and reach out to experts in my area of issue. She is so caring. She speaks to you like an intelligent human being who has a say in your care. She respects your choices and helps you to make the right ones for you. She is so smart and so meticulous. I can't recommend her any more highly. I have already recommended her to a friend. Kathy and Karen the Nurse and Nurse Navigator are amazing too. Dr. Early is great, she is very honest and will tell you like it is, not like you want to hear! She worries about her patients. Kathy her nurse practitioner is amazing, very sweet and a joy to talk to about anything, really! They recently hired a nurse I don’t love her, don’t feel like she is very caring specially for the practice she works; but I try to ignore that bc I’m there for the doctor!

I was diagnosed with colon cancer and went to Dr Early. She was not pro-active in treating my sickness. She wanted to present my case to a board, so I came back a week later to find she "did not get around to it". She did not want to start treatment immediately. I went to Hackensack to meet another Dr for a second opinion. I never went back to Dr Early. My treatments started 2 days later. I did call Dr Early's office to tell them I would not be returning. A week or two later I got a call saying "please hold for Dr. Early". ( I was sitting at Hackensack Medical Center when she called, getting my chemo.) Dr Early got on the phone and berated me for canceling my appointment and not letting anyone know about it. First off, I DID inform her staff and secondly I guess I should feel privileged that she took the time to personally scold me. Good choice to stay away from her on my part. Sadly a neighbor of mine chose her, and is no longer alive today. I am 13 years cancer free!!

She is probably technically ok but totally lacks compassion and cannot relate to how the patient or her family is feeling. Very poor bed side manner.

The last time I visited her, I left in tears. I cancelled the next appointment due to avoidance. I realized I was putting my own health at risk, and tried to find another oncologist. Lesson learned, it is difficult to find a new oncologist if you are in survivorship. I am extremely disappointed as I was referred to her by a trusted patient of hers. As the visits increased, I found her dismissive, condescending, and intolerant. I kept reminding myself, she is a good clinician but has poor "bed side manner". I notice people either love her or hate her and wonder what about those patients, like myself, she dislikes? Luckily, I found a new oncologist who has all the necessary characteristics to treat cancer patients as well as any patient. Note, when getting your team together before cancer treatment, make sure you meet ALL of them first. Because my treatment followed surgery, and she came highly recommended, I didn't consult with her first.

Knows her stuff!!!

Dr. Early is competent, professional, and capable. She is direct and very focused on the patient and their condition. She is intelligent, knowledgeable , and current with treatment, diagnosis and condition. I transferred care to her and was impressed with her familiarity with my case on the first visit. She certainly knew more about me than my previous physician. My records were tabbed and highlighted during our first meeting. She is open to questions and discussion; readily providing answers and explanations. I would highly recommend her.
