Dr. Elliott Steven Cohen, MD

I went in to see this doctor at Condell since I had contracted pnuemonia. After his first failed attempt at removing an unbelievable amount of pus and fluid from my lower lung area, he told me that he would have to cut me open from waist to shoulder and perform massive surgery on me since I "had no other option". I am diabetic and the patient ALWAYS has other options, or at least the chance for a second opinion. At this point, this doctor began to literally scream at me on the phone and told me that I had " wasted enough of his time anyway", so I in fact went to a different doctor (also in Condell) and he said I could have a much less invasive surgery that was video assisted with minor incisions. I decided this was the route I wanted to go and I just recently got home with excellent results. I would highly recommend against ever using dr. Cohen or his Services as he is a one-man show and listens to only himself and never the patient. It seems as if he puts his desires and needs in… front of the patients and I don't feel that it's right when you are in a drastic medical situation. I hope this review helps people and if you ever need a recommendation or opinion, just remember there are always other doctors out there.

Terrible bedside manner, poor social skills and professionally absent. He was called in to check on my mother as intensivist on duty. Given that he did not really know the medical history of my mother, he made hasty recommendations that we should reconsider our family's decision to uphold supporting full life support and response in the event that she medically declines. He made textbook assumptions that just because my mother is also an Alzhemer's patient that she has necessarily already poor QOL. My mother lives in her own home and has a full time registered nurse and a full time caregiver 24/7. We enjoy and are thankful of our time spent with her. I don't know where he comes from but our family values and respects our elders. We honor their time with us and we show our gratefulness to our elders by being happy we could be with them and take care of them while they are with us. We do not just off them as this doctor is suggesting us do just because she has Alzheimer's and does not do… much any more. Wow, we would never have this doctor take care of our mother if we ca help it. Besides, when we tried to talk to him as a family member, he made very inappropriate comments on how one of us looked young and everything, right in between telling us we shoi reconsider our decision to support full medical support for our mother. Amazingly poor social etiquette!
