Dr. Emily W Cunningham, MD

Dr. Cunningham is an excellent physician. So kind, caring, and knowledgeable.

Her staff are incompetent, except for the one nice reception lady in the waiting room. I came in for the Paragard IUD insertion. I had to tell the nurses 5 times, literally, that I do not want the Mirena. Once I talked to Emily, I told her that I have a phobia about this, that I'm super nervous and asked if there was anything she could give me to calm me down. nope. a nurse came in and took my blood pressure, it was high. who'd have thought the girl who said she was super nervous has high blood pressure? Despite that, Emily inserted it. she never showed me what it looked like, didn't explain anything to me. she only told me that it "felt like a pap smear" and then immediately started counting down when my cramps would kick in. it was excruciating, at no fault of her own. she inserted it well. After insertion, she immediately took her gloves off and walked out. never heard from again. I was shaking and crying on the table from the trauma I felt. once I finally got up to walk out of her… office, I asked the closest nurse sitting at the table in front of her office how to check my strings, since no one had told me. she laughed. a nurse walking by overheard me ask and told me how to. which then the other nurse at the desk immediately chimed in loudly with a "yeah! with ya fangers!" and then was told by that nurse to schedule an appointment for "when it falls out in a couple of months. Paragard does that!" excuse me, but how is this lady even a nurse? I walked out of there humiliated and in pain. I'm now traumatized from an experience that I already had a phobia about. if it wasn't for living in rural SE KY and worrying about getting birth control, I wouldn't have done it. Thankfully I got the Paragard despite being hassled multiple times, because it lasts for 12 years and I'll never be able to go through an experience like that ever again.

Dr Cunningham is an amazing doctor. She's delivered all three of my children. I highly recommend her.

My first experience with Dr. Cunningham was amazing and I thought I had finally found the right gynecologist. She was very nice,caring and helpful, spent time with me and explained everything in detail. My husband and I thought she was great. The following appointments were different, she was late and the last time that I saw her previous to this one I felt like she wanted to kick me out of the office ASAP, probably because it was already 5:00 pm (or after), she told me I was doing alright, and that was it as she practically pushed us out the door. She was in a hurry and she didn't listen to what I wanted to say; not exactly the nice & caring doctor I remembered, a total different attitude. After that I still had a little bit of hope on her and made another appointment with her due to another issue, couldn't see her right away because apparently emergencies are only for pregnant women??...That's what some receptionist told me. Made the appointment for a week after, by then I had been… taking care of myself with macrobiotic diet, which cured all my symptoms, so by the time I went to see her I was already doing alright. I was expecting to see her just to get a general check up and make sure everything was ok. They called me in and the nurse led me to the room, then she took my blood pressure was the worst nurse ever, she took my BP without even asking me to roll up my sleeve, the stethoscope was not even touching my skin. When she was done she looked at the numbers and said:"that is not good!" As she walked out the door.A few minutes later another lady came in, thought it was another nurse but it was in fact another doctor. I explained the reason I was there, also told her that I cured myself following a macrobiotic diet and that I just needed a full check up to make sure that everything was ok. She DIDN'T EVEN LISTENED OR PAID ATTENTION TO WHAT I SAID. Since I was feeling better I didn't want to take drugs or anything,She totally ignored me and told me I had an infection and started talking non-stop about antibiotics, and that she was going to prescribe me 2 kinds of them!! First of all, I made an appointment with Cunningham, Where was she???? Instead of her they send me two ladies that don't even know what they are doing and DON'T LISTEN to the patient. She was ready to kick me out but I told her I needed to get checked up, all she did was poked my belly.Right after that happened she told me that I HAD TO DELIVER MY OWN SAMPLE TO THE LAB!???, Thru the labyrinth of the hospital , Really? Do we have to accept this now as standard practice? There was another lady (nurse) sitting around and she was doing NOTHING. Why couldn't she collect the specimens and bring them down? I am paying them and they have my husband and I running around in that confusing building looking for the lab carrying bodily fluids??? Why not 'produce' the sample at the lab for that matter? Has anybody else had an experience such as this? .On a 10 scale this experience is less than zero.

Dr. Cunningham has delivered three of my four children(would have delivered the fourth had my water not broken at midnight the night before my scheduled csection!)She performed three csections and I have had numerous nurses comment on how great my scar looks. I had a miscarriage between two of my pregnancies and Dr. Cunningham was so caring it was almost like she was a friend and not just my doctor! She is an amazing doctor and an amazing person! As for her staff, they have always been friendly with me as well! I trust Dr. Cunningham to level with me and always point me in the right direction where my health is concerned!

I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I wound up switching offices due to how unprofessional the nurses and staff were. Also, how seriously I was taken. Dr. Cunningham was my doctor and performed an emergency c-section for my first child. We had trouble conceiving a second child, and after switching offices (Lex Women's Health kept putting off doing any sort of testing), I found out I had "complications" from my initial c-section that left me completely scarred on one side, and my fallopian tube was not attached to the correct place (most likely due to the scarring). I'm not blaming the office for this, but we wasted a whole year of "oh, you'll be fine, it's just taking a little longer to get pregnant this time." Now that I've switched offices, Lexington Women's Health has been very uncooperative at providing my client files to my new office. They have made repeated attempts to obtain them, with no success. I have called myself and the staff was extremely rude to me. I'm 32… weeks pregnant, and we're trying to determine whether to have a repeat c-section or a VBAC, a decision I cannot make without our medical files. I am driving there this week to make them hand them to me in person. What a disappointment.

Dr. Cunningham was responsible for my 2 events pregnancies. I still see her for regular check up annually and totally satisfied with her expertise, her office staffs.

I had a previous OB dr in Louisville who had an awful bedside manner. He was my dr for over 15 years and delivered my other children. My fourth son was stillborn, there was no reasoning why because all my other pregnancies were "normal". I was just told that it happens. Not long after that we moved to Lexington and I was given Dr Cunningham's information. I came into her office shortly after becoming pregnant with my 5th child and had discussed my fears of having another stillbirth. She listened and had sent me to a specialist to ease my concerns. Come to find out, I had developed an incompetent cervix and had to have a procedure to correct this. If Dr Cunningham did not listen to my concerns, I would have lost another baby. I am eternally grateful for her and her staff. They are so caring. You could not be in better hands!
