Stay away from her at all costs.

It was difficult to hear some of the things Dr. Helm stated in my diagnosis, but she is one of the best doctors I have ever had at the VA. She told me exactly what I was doing to hurt my body with pain meds, corrected my actions and gave me a plan to get better. She spent 40 minutes with me to talk to me about ways I can alter my lifestyle.

Doctor ignores patient pain, claiming I was in no visual distress, uses her position to belittle her patients, calls her patients “honey, hun,” as if they are her own children. One of the worst emergency room doctors I’ve ever seen. I’ve been treated for the same accute abdominal pain for 10 years she was the first to completely deny me of any pain management. Ultimately she gave in to my requests for pain treatment but only after I condemn her behavior and attitude towards me. Her comments in my medical records are grossly inaccurate and were written as if to warn future doctors about me. This has directly created problems when visiting the emergency room for anything related to pain. Twisted my words to fit her own narrative to make it seem as though I was threatening her if she didn’t treat my pain. A complete disgrace who shouldn’t ever be allowed to see Veterans.

I saw her in the TGH ER. She was pleasant, thorough, and clear.
