Dr. Emily Hualun Hsu, MD

Dr. Emily Hsu served as my husband’s physician at the VA in Washington, D.C. for approximately three years. During that time, he consistently reported ongoing and worsening back pain. Despite multiple requests for further evaluation—including asking specifically for an MRI—and several ER visits due to severe pain, advanced imaging was not ordered until very recently. When the MRI was finally completed, it revealed degenerative disc disease (DDD) with associated nerve pain—something that could potentially have been identified and addressed much earlier. Shortly after these results, Dr. Hsu left her position for Walter Reed without any communication or continuity of care, which was both surprising and concerning given the circumstances. We understand that transitions happen, but the lack of timely diagnostic action and follow-through made an already difficult situation more challenging. I would encourage others to be proactive and persistent in advocating for thorough evaluation and… follow-up care.

Excellent bedside manner, seems to really know here stuff. She and Dr. Hou are the only two at KP Gaithersburg worth visiting with. Follows up by email and phone!
