Went in with my 6 year old today crying with inconsolable ear pain after having a fever with an illness for over 10 days. She insisted it was swimmers ear (despite not having him in any swimming this summer and I explained he took showers and never gets water in his ear). I told her he has been sick around his paternal grandmother and uncle who both got ear infections with this cold. She insisted it was swimmers ear. Did not offer to treat the pain or anything. I took him across the street to Park Nicollet and they looked and first of all gave him some medicine to treat the pain. Then they said that he had a severe middle ear infection that needed antibiotics and his entire ear drum was infected. They also worked with me to find a pharmacy that was open in order for me to get the medicine tonight.
