Dr. Emma Rebecca Bays Carlon

Started going to Carlon dentistry about a year ago. It's an hour drive each way from where I live, but it took our insurance, Tricare. In the beginning, we had pretty good service. We scheduled appointments and had the work done. Occasionally, I would over hear some of the staff talking rudely about other patients, but I brushed it off. In hindsight, it should have been a red flag. Dr. Becky always spoke to me as little as possible and in very few words. Some people are just like that, though, so I brushed it off. She wasn't my normal dentist anyways. Her daughter, Dr. Christen Carlon, was. Dr. Christen was always kind to me. She had a great bedside manner, she was always cheerful, and she did everything she could to help me deal with my nervousness about going to the dentist. Been scared since I was a little kid. We didn't have insurance this year, because of some bad timing on my part. We decided to stay with Carlon dentistry, because even though it was an hour drive each way and… we were self-pay now, we were getting good service. I had self-payed over $1k already to have some work done, and I still had about a month and a half of appointments and about $4k to still pay them. For the record, self-pay means that I was giving them cash at the end of each appointment and paying for the work as soon as it was done. This morning, I went in for my regularly scheduled appointment. I was scheduled at 8, right when they opened. I arrived 20 minutes early, but I had my kids in the car and was waiting for my husband to get off work to come get the kids. He called 10 minutes before my appoinment and he said he would be 15 minutes late. I walked into the office and let the receptionist know what was going on and that I had to stay with my kids in the car and I apologized. She said it would be no problem. I walked back into the office promptly at 8:15, as I told them I would. Dr. Becky Carlon was standing behind reception and she sounded annoyed. She said, "Okay, well why don't you go ahead and come on back." I said Yes ma'am. She said "I've been standing behind this desk since 8 a.m. waiting on you!" We began walking back to the exam room. I said "I'm so sorry about that... But... I did tell the receptionist that I would be 15 minutes late." She said, "I know that! But your appointment was at 8 a.m.!" I apologized again and explained that my children were in the car and there was nothing I could do except wait for my husband. She said "I know they told me your kids were in the car, but you should have been on time!" I said "Well I'm very sorry about that." I sat down in the chair and she continued to condescend to me and chastise me. That's when I realized that no matter how much I dislike confrontation, I can't let this angry, crazy lady drill into my teeth. So I got up and said "you know what, I'm sorry, but I'm actually just going to go." She said "Great. That works for me. Bye." And she followed me out. I said "Please also cancel the rest of my appointments." She yelled "Great! That works for me too! Good luck with your teeth! Have a nice day!" I walked outside and cried. I'll never go back. I paid them thousands of dollars in cash and drove an hour each way for every appoinment. I don't think I deserve to be accosted like that or talked down to. Sorry, Dr. Christen. You're very kind, but your mother is rude and scary.

I have been using the Carlons for about five years. I look forward to teeth cleanings and dentist visits because the staff is super friendly and the dentists are caring and experienced.

Spoke to Dr. Carlon today about how unprofessional her receptionist is and apparently hurt some feelings, she told me that I did not have to deal with it anymore and hung up in my face. Yeah, real professional doc, where did you say you graduated from again. Well, I am going to make sure that all of your potentials know the deal...Thanks, for nothing!!!
